A 12- year- old boy died when he was knocked down by a truck on Saturday at Thoubal parking, Thoubal district in Manipur, police said on Sunday. The incident took place at around 7: 30 pms last night when Akoijam Sivash (12) was hit by a speeding truck while he along with his two friends were going to attend at a Thabal Chongba programme at Thoubal Okram in the same district.
Condemning the incident, locals of the area blocked Imphal- Moreh section of National Highway-39 from 10 am to 12 noon as well as to pressurise the authorities to arrest the driver and the truck involved in the incident. However, the blockade on the National Highway section was withdrawn following the driver along with the truck surrendered at Lilong police station, police said.

A NDFB-S rebel identified as Buddhiram Basumatary alias Birkw of Amteka Debrabil in Chirang district was apprehanded from Karigaon area in Kokrajhar by security forces belonging to the Army on Sunday morning.
