Noted educationist, journalist Thaneswar Hazarika passes away


Thaneswar Hazarika, of the Bokakhat Town and the local correspondent of The Sentinel newspaper died on Saturday at his residence following prolonged illness. Born in Majuli, Hazarika was 64 at the time of his demise.


Noted educationist, Hazarika retired as the principal-in-charge of JDSG college, Bokakhat. He was associated with various newspapers of Assam including The Assam Tribune, Dainik Asom, The Sentinel, The Eastern Clarion, Natun Dainik etc. He was serving as the president of Bokakhat Press Club at the time of his demise.


Highly admired by the people of Bokakhat, Hazarika leaves behind his wife, two daughters and a son, besides a host of relatives.

ln a major embaressment for BJP a year ahead of assembly a local court in Nagaon has ordered life sentence for a leader convicting in a murder case. 

The additional district sessions court in Nagaon on Tuesday gave lifer for district BJP vice president Subhash Debnath with fine of Rs 5000 in connection with a sensational murder case that rattled the entire state in 2007.

Biodiversity train on 4 days visit to Guwahati

The Science Express-Biodiversity Special train of the Union ministry of environment and forest arrived at Kamakhya railway junction in Guwahati on Saturday. The special train was inaugurated jointly by the mission director of Sarva Sikhsha Abhijan, L S Changsang and N F Railways general manager R S Virdi.


Eight of the coaches are dedicated to showcasing the biodiversity of the northeast, trans-Himalaya and Himalayas, Gangetic plain, desert and semi-arid zone, western ghat, Deccan peninsula, coasts and islands. The other coaches exhibit climate change, energy, water conservation and petroleum among the other branches of science. The train will be here for four days.
