ThaneswarHazarika, of the Bokakhat Town and the local correspondent of The Sentinel newspaperdied on Saturday at his residence following prolonged illness. Born in Majuli, Hazarika was 64 at the time of his demise.
Notededucationist, Hazarika retired as the principal-in-charge of JDSG college, Bokakhat. He was associated with various newspapers of Assam including The Assam Tribune, Dainik Asom, The Sentinel, The Eastern Clarion, Natun Dainik etc. He was serving as the president of Bokakhat Press Club at the time of his demise.
Highly admired by the people of Bokakhat, Hazarika leaves behind his wife, two daughters and a son, besides a host of relatives.

Assam Congress legislators will meet on Monday to chalk out a slew of strategies to put up an outstanding performance in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.The brain storming meet is scheduled to take place at 11 in the morning at the legislators’ conference in the Assembly House premises. Assam Congress president Bhubneswar Kalita is likely to seek re-election to the Rajya Sabha.According to top sources, Kalita, whose term will expire on April 13 is all set to file his nomination before the returning officers in Dispur on Monday two days after he got green signal from the party high command.He is expected to be the party’s first choice candidate for the polls slated for February 7.In yet another significant development, the party is believed to have finalised nomination of Kirip Chaliha as the third choice. A circle of legislators have been lobbying for the former Lok Sabha MP for the last couple of months.
