ThaneswarHazarika, of the Bokakhat Town and the local correspondent of The Sentinel newspaperdied on Saturday at his residence following prolonged illness. Born in Majuli, Hazarika was 64 at the time of his demise.
Notededucationist, Hazarika retired as the principal-in-charge of JDSG college, Bokakhat. He was associated with various newspapers of Assam including The Assam Tribune, Dainik Asom, The Sentinel, The Eastern Clarion, Natun Dainik etc. He was serving as the president of Bokakhat Press Club at the time of his demise.
Highly admired by the people of Bokakhat, Hazarika leaves behind his wife, two daughters and a son, besides a host of relatives.

Assam Congress in deep grip of poll mood. Altogether 138 candidates are waiting to contest from 14 Lok Sabha polls. Rajiv Bhawan sources told assamtimes that Guwahati seat gets maximum 18 aspirants. Seventeen aspirants have applied to contest from Barpeta. Nagaon, Barpeta and Silchar have 16 aspirants each. Union minister Pawan Singh Ghatowar is likely to be fielded from his home constituency Dibrugarh as there is no other aspirant for the seat. Ranee Narah, BK Handique, and Biren Singh Engti have applied for their home constituencies Lakhimpur, Jorhat and Diphu respectively. The state Congress committee will meet on Tuesday to screen the aspirants.
NDFB’s anti-talk faction continues to unleash terror in BTAD areas. The Bodo militant outfit shot dead one more person in Chirang district on Saturday.The attack took place at Panbari along the Indo-Bhutan border in the evening where four others persons have been injured. The injured have been undergoing treatment.The incident took place hardly 24 hours after the militants massacred passengers from a Jonai bound bus from Siliguri in Kokrajhar. A full scale operation is set to begin in the BTAD areas. This was what new DGP Khagen Sarma told reporters in Guwahati after NDFB(S) shot dead 6 people in two separate shoot outs during the last 24 hours.Sarma said that the security forces are all set to launch the operation to flush out the disturbing elements in the BTAD areas. State BJP unit blames it all on chief minister TarunGogoi for the Kokrajhar incident where NDFB(S) faction shot dead five Hindi-speaking passengers of a Siliguri-Jonai bus in Serfangguri on Friday night,Talking to reporters on Saturday in New Delhi, state unit president SarbanandaSonowal said that these incidents do take place at regular intervals only because of Gogoi who has been failing to deal with the law and order situation in the state.

Talking to reporters in New Delhi, Gogoi said that the party has yet
to formally declare the AICC vice president as the prime ministerial
candidate but it the mood inside the party suggested that he would be
the prime minister if the party wins the upcoming polls. “On many
occasions I have said that Rahul Gandhi is a fit candidate for prime
minister,” he said before his brain storming session with the party
