Thaneswar Hazarika, of the Bokakhat Town and the local correspondent of The Sentinel newspaper died on Saturday at his residence following prolonged illness. Born in Majuli, Hazarika was 64 at the time of his demise.


Noted educationist, Hazarika retired as the principal-in-charge of JDSG college, Bokakhat. He was associated with various newspapers of Assam including The Assam Tribune, Dainik Asom, The Sentinel, The Eastern Clarion, Natun Dainik etc. He was serving as the president of Bokakhat Press Club at the time of his demise.


Highly admired by the people of Bokakhat, Hazarika leaves behind his wife, two daughters and a son, besides a host of relatives.

The brief silence is over. BTAD areas seem to have erupted in violence forcing the authority to clamp curfew on Thursday.     Violence took its worse turn during the 24 hour lower Assam bandh on Wednesday demanding exclusion of Non Boro areas from BTAD.      A string of group clashes marred the bandh call leaving two dead and several others injured.             The clashes broke out in Baska when a group of people forced some shops to open. These have forced the administration to step up security in the entire Baska district.
Assam on Wednesday again pledged to give a brave fight against terrorism---of all forms when the state remembered  with deep grief those died in the October 30 serial blast five years back.       Participating at a tributery function under the Ganesguri flyover, chief minister Tarun Gogoi urged the people to stand united against terrorism. Bad news for nature lovers. A wild elephant found dead of electrocution on Tuesday night.                The tragic incident took place at Sonari in Sivasagar at night when a heard of wild elephants came to the are in quest io search of food. A small group of these elephant came to Joboka tea estate where the incident took place.        The carcass was spotted in the morning. But it took nearly 5 hours for the forest officials to reach the spot.
After a brief lull, violence erupts again in BTAD areas.      A protest in the form of 24 hour Assam bandh called by the no Bodos demanding their safety turned violent on Wednesday wee hours.       Despite a beefed up security measures, bandh supporters set on fire a truck in Gossaigaon on the road.      A non Bodo student body has called for the 24 hour bandh in protest against one of their leaders.
Three persons were killed and atleast 20 others have been injured when a passenger bus collided its head on a tanker in Nagaon district. The incident took place on the National Highway 37 in Roha at 2 am, where a Guwahati bound passenger bus from Tinsukia collided head on a standred tanker.             The of the passengers died on the spot while the injured have been rushed to the hospital.
