Sri Sri Madhab Dev jayanti observed at Barpeta
The 522nd birth anniversary of Mahapurush Sri Sri Madhabdev, the great disciple of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev was observed here at historical Barpeta satra from today , which was established by Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev. According to the programme, in the early morning the ‘Usha Kirtan’, and regular prayer and after then ‘Bhagawat Bhraman’ were held from the satra with ‘gayans-bayans’, Naam-Kirtan, along with Satriyas. The procession taken throughout the town and re-enter into the Barpeta satra later on.
In the evening there was a memorial meet on the memory of Mahapurush Sri Sri Madhabdev presided over by Basistha Debsarmah, Bura Satriya, Barpeta satra. In this meet the Deka Satriya of Barpeta satra Nabajit Das Pathak and Uddhab Das, secy, Sankardev- Madhabdev Mission, Barpeta were also addressed as the appointed speaker. In their address they explined in detail about the life and works of Mahapurush Sri Sri Madhabdev.In the evening the students of Barpeta Satra Sanskritik Mahavidyalaya performed various programmes along with the jhumura “ Chor-Dhara’.There will be naam by the aai-sakal ( women) at ‘Tupar Chotal’ at Satra campus. And in the evening there will be lightening of the lamp. Besides, the birth anniversary of Mahapurush Sri sri Madhabdev was also observed at Ganakkuchi and Sundaridiya Satra.

Nabajit Das, Lecturer in Zoology, B.H.college, Howly participated in the 10th students' conference on conservation sciences held in Cambridge University on March 24 to 26 and presented a paper on "Bengal Slowlories", the only nocturnal primate species of North-East India. The people of Barpeta have been suffering tremendously for the erratic supply of electricity in the last few days. The supply is disrupted without any prior notice and this continues for a long period of time. The worst sufferers are the students community, industries, educational institutions etc.
Barpeta police seized one loaded truck log at Nagaon, about 10 km away from the town last night at about 2 pm. According to report said, the police visited various places of Barpeta last night and when they reached near Nagaon they found the truck on the road and they seized truck. The driver of the truck Rezzak Ali informed that these logs are coming from Nuntola of Saorbhog (to Bahari Saw mill) and the owner of this is Banjit Das of Barpeta. The cost of seized log is about Rs.1 lakh.
