The city based GNRC Hospitals in association with Guwahati Press Club has organized a Free Screening Camp for Detection and Prevention of Stroke on October 29, 2011 at the press club campus. The health camp that is open for all media persons will start at 10 am and culminate at 2 pm.


“One in every six person will suffer from Stroke in his or her lifetime. That is a certainty. This means every family has the risk of having a Stroke incident in this world. But, it is also a fact that people are still not aware about this devastating disease,” says Dr N C Borah, Chairman cum Managing Director, GNRC Hospitals.


He also added that 70% of the Strokes are preventable. By creating awareness amongst the people about its risk factors majority of the Strokes can be prevented. Also by educating people in early recognition of Stroke and its prompt treatment we can achieve significant reduction in mortality and improvement in disability, Dr Borah claims.


The October 29 is observed as the World Stroke Day and it is an opportunity for all of us to create awareness amongst the people about this devastating Public Health Problem. The members of GPC are requested to participate in the camp.

Narrow escape for security forces

Security forces had a narrow escape when on Sunday morning when an attempt by s joint ULFA-I and NSCN-K team missed the target in Tinsukia district. The incident took place on early in the morning when security forces were moving in the area and as they reached the Jagun area rebels indiscriminately targettef them from the dense jungle who managed to flee immediately. Kaziranga case: Akhil Gogoi arrested

 After days of will-they-won’t-they, police have arrested Akhil Gogoi on Sunday in connection with the recent protest in Kaziranga. A group of policemen caught the KMSS leaders from his residence in Chandmari in Guwahati in the morning charging him with aiding and abetting the people who staged protest against the eviction drive in the world heritage site where two people were killed in police firing. Gogoi, who took the leader allegedly fled from the scene and since then policemen in Guwahati and Bokakhar have been looking for him to be arrested.

Shoot out mires in mystery

The shoot out in Karbi Anglong district seems to have mired in controversy as the authority has called it an incident of accidental firing where a policeman was killed. Health awareness programme held at Tangla College

An health awareness programme was held at the conference hall of Tangla College on Wednesday. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Prasen Daimari Principal Tangla College.
