Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi says if Assam is to march, the rural areas should go for a speedy development.
Addressing a few function on Sunday in Jorhat, Mr Gogoi says proper roads and bridges help in speedy growth and development and said that the Government was laying extra stress on such development in rural areas.
The Chief Minister further says Jorhat will be transformed into a tourist hub very shortly.the the extension service of the Janasanyog’s FLS programme at Rajahowli village in Jorhat district. The Chief Minister also distributed TV sets among several organizations as a part of implementation of a Central scheme.
While a token beginning of distribution of such TV sets was made today, in all 16,820 TV sets will be handed over to such organizations in the State under the scheme.
Addressing a public meeting at Baligaon Jaganath Barua Arya vidyalaya, the Chief Minister said that the FLS programme as well as TV and radio sets distributed under various programmes would enhance the klowledge and aptitude of the rural people on various fronts.
He also said that the RCC bridge to be constructed over river Bhogdoi at Balibaat in Jorhat would fulfil a long-standing demand of the people.
Referring to Majuli, he said that the State Government was making a fresh move to acquire the status of World Heritage Site of the UNESCO for the river island.
Mr Gogoi visited Melamati area here to take stock of the situation arising out of the outbreak of diarrhoea and instructed the district administration and the Health Department to take necessary steps to control water-borne diseases in the district.
The Chief Minister further attended the Jorhat Matsya Mahotsav which got under way at the auditorium of Jorhat District Library on Saturday.
He advocated the use of modern technologies to achieve self-sufficiency in fish production. Earlier, he laid the foundation for the construction of a new bridge to replace the British-era structure on JB Road.
