Arsenic which is formed in heavy quality in the ground level water of Sivasagar and Nazira makes the people worry. Now the Govt. is trying to create awareness among the people and take some preventive measures.

Under the guidelines of ‘National Rural Drinking water quality monitoring and survillance programme the Public Health and Enginerring Department of Sivasagar and Nazira is conducting a few awareness camps in different places.

At Santak and Bihubor where two water project were sealed by the PHED Nazira for presence of heavy quantity of arsenic. Govt. is now planning to setup a arsenic -tretment plant there.

The BJP lead new municipal body of Nazira Municipal board took over on Saturday. Senior BJP leader of Nazira Dilip Hazarika was unanimously elected as the Chairman of the new municipal board of Nazira. Jorhat MP Kamakhya Tasa, MLA Debobrate Saikia along with SDO (C) Syed Zahid Chisty etc. were prominent among those who attended the function.On the other hand, BJP formed the new town committee at Simaluguri electing Swapna Saikia and Md.Rofik Ali as the new chairperson and vice chairman.

Strike: ONGC clears position

ONGC Assam Asset fears major disruption in its functionings following the ongoing strike of the motor vehicle labour union. In a press release on Thursday, it said that it was ONGC is not directly involved with the demands raised by the Motor vehicle labour union. Dharna for local recruitment

Beware of H1N1

In a bid to make the people aware o H1N1 infection, Pragati and Freelance Journalist Association organised a day long awareness programme in Nazira on Sunday.Participating in the programme Dr Lobodev Goswami and Dr.Satyajit Dutta of Nazira Health Centre suggested the people to remain on alert.The NGO distributed leaflets containing causes, symptoms and precautionary measures among the people.

All out against Swamy

The Nazira unit of All Assam Minority Students’ Union took out a huge rally on Saturday in protest against Dr Subramaniam Swamy’s visit to the state.Hundreds of AAMSU activists hit the streets in Nazira shouting slogans against the BJP leader who allegedly has been trying to create communal clash in the state.  Talking to Assam Times the protesters said that they would allow Swamy to make any communal comments. They further asked the government not to allow the BJP leader to visit the state.   

Women's Day celebration

The International Women's Day is observed today at Bihubor.  It was organized by Bihubor Siloni Mahila Surakhya Sommittee Pragati Mahila Mancha -a unit of the NGO Pragati Nazira and NaziraMahkuma Mahila Somittee. In this connection a seminar on the global topic -'Make it Happen ' was held, where women right activist Dibyajyoti Gohain Gogoi, Anjalee Dutta,Nijumoni Gogoi etc.were present and delivered their lectures on the field of women empowerment. A sports competition was also organised and a colourful cultural procession was also taken out.

Holy celeberated at Nazira

Holy the festival of colour and joy is celeberated in and around Nazira with traditional gaiety and flavour. People from different caste and communities participated in the rally of Holly and greeted each other with colour. Some people distributed sweets on the occasion.
