An Executive Member (EM) of Tiwa Autonomous Council, Hema Kanta Deka was arrested by police on November 10 on charges of cheating and illicit collection of money from unemployed youth of various parts of Nagaon and Morigaon districts assuring them government jobs.

A police source revealed that Hema Kanta Deka, who also served as General Secretary of Morigaon District Youth Congress, has been pocketing lakhs of rupees from hundreds of unemployed youth since 1992, assuring them jobs specially teachers' ones in LP and ME schools of the aforesaid districts.

Tax collection resumes at Raha toll plaza

Raha: The hue and cry to stop the toll plaza in Raha on the National Highway No 37 has proved to be a futile exercise when NHAI has resumed tax collection from Monday.  That too before the end of the nationwide lock down to keep the killer COVID19 at bay. Raha administration plastic cleanliness drive

NAGAON: As part of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi's  call during his Independence Day speech to clean up the environment from plastic, the local administration here along with Raha Municipality Board (RMB) on Saturday launched a drive at Raha Toll Plaza along the four-lane highway to clean up the plastic garbage from the area. Notorious snatcher held , hand made pistol seized

Nagaon: The Nagaon police today apprehended a snatcher from Bhakatgaon bazar.    Identified as Bilal Uddin of Silongoni village , the apprehended person was involved in a snatching case under Sadar P S.    One hand made pistol was also recovered from the possession of the accused. Encephalitis toll mounts

Japanese Encephalitis claimed as many as 64 lives in different parts of the state till Tuesday. The number of affected people reached 265 on Tuesday. KMSS burns effigy of PM

Nagaon: Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) chief Akhil Gogoi on Tuesday announced a state-wide effigy burning protest against Prime Minister Narendra Modi following the announcement of not declaring Assam flood as a ‘national issue’. As part of this state-wide protest , the district unit of Nagaon KMSS today burnt the effigy of PM Narendra Modi at Krishnaikhat on four-lane highway raising slogans against the BJP led government in centre and state. Truck driver arrested for reporting fake hijack

Nagaon: A Guwahati based truck driver and his wife have been arrested for reporting a fake truck hijacking case at the Raha police station , police said here on Sunday. Nagaon: The Chief Judicial Magistrate court Nagaon declared two witness namely Numal Basumatari and Ujjal Mesh of Abhi Neel case as hostile.
