ssam’s Angaraag Papon Mahanta, world-renowned percussionist Bickram Ghosh from Kolkata and Scottish singer-songwriter Rachel Sermanni swayed the audience into a musical synergy in folk music that transcends borders. The performance took place in the prestigious SouthBank Centre, London last Friday (13th April 2012). South Bank Centre is the largest single-run arts centre in the world and includes the Royal festival Hall, Hayward Gallery, Queen Elizabeth hall and the Purcell Room.


The concept “TROIKALA” attempts to carefully handpick three artists from different regions and explore a whole new folk music, rich with heritage, borrowing influences from new-age textures which intends to make the music crackle into a perfect fusion of sorts. The project was initiated by the British Council and generously supported by Indian Council for Cultural Relations. Vocals: Papon and Rachel. Tabla: Bickram Ghosh.


The audience response to the Trio was heartfelt and one could see the chemistry and the flawless synergy among the three artists as they played with ease. Papon’s interaction with the audience and his Bihu at the end stole the show.

Narrow escape for security forces

Security forces had a narrow escape when on Sunday morning when an attempt by s joint ULFA-I and NSCN-K team missed the target in Tinsukia district. Kaziranga case: Akhil Gogoi arrested

 After days of will-they-won’t-they, police have arrested Akhil Gogoi on Sunday in connection with the recent protest in Kaziranga. A group of policemen caught the KMSS leaders from his residence in Chandmari in Guwahati in the morning charging him with aiding and abetting the people who staged protest against the eviction drive in the world heritage site where two people were killed in police firing. Gogoi, who took the leader allegedly fled from the scene and since then policemen in Guwahati and Bokakhar have been looking for him to be arrested.

Shoot out mires in mystery

The shoot out in Karbi Anglong district seems to have mired in controversy as the authority has called it an incident of accidental firing where a policeman was killed.
