On the occasion of National Technology Day,2012, a workshop was held at Kalaigaon Girls High School on May 11 to discuss latest technological developments and to make people aware of the transit of Venus to be occurred on June 6. The programme was organised by the school itself in association with Aryabhatta Science Centre,Kalaigaon block. The workshop started at school play ground at 11 AM which was conducted by senior teacher Gajendra Saharia. All the students and teachers attended the discussion where ASC block co-ordinator JK Das demonstrated the use of latest scientific equipments like GPS (Global Position System),Solar Filter etc. On the occasion co-ordinator Das explained about the need of studying basic science so as to enable students and teachers the use of science in everyday life. According to him basic understanding of science is very much essential in our modern life. The basic knowledge of science could very much eradicate so many social evils like blind belief and superstitions etc. According to him lack of basic scientific knowledge have been posing several social menaces like witch hunting,dowry,rapid growth of population etc.


He further request students and teachers to to watch the great celestial event of this century “Transit of Venus,2012” to be occurred on the morning of June 6 as per advices given by Vigyan Prasar and Pragjyotish Amateur Astronomers Association,Guwahati Planetarium. He handed over a set of related packet of watching material to the school. State level child scientist Barasha Deka performed a melodious song while science teacher Pramod Saharia and student Kabita Tanti also spoke a few words on the occasion

HSLC commences peacefully at Kalaigaon

HSLC examination 2013 has commenced peacefully at Kalaigaon on February 18. Total 888 numbers of students,mostly girls, (boys-398, girls-490) have appeared in this years HSLC examination at Kalaigaon. Poor show by Congress in Kalaigaon LAC

Congress has performed worst in two ZPC, ten GP and ten AP constituencies in Kalaigaon LAC (non BTAD) in the recent panchayat election while AGP and AUDF performed very well. According to the latest results.In Tengabari-Lakhimpur ZPC, Nalini Saharia of AGP and in Syamtila ZPC Nasisa Hussain of AUDF won comfortably against Congress candidates. AGP won 5 and AUDF won 4 GP presidents while Congress satisfied with just 1. Like wise AGP won 5 ,AUDF 4 and Congress won only 1 AP Members from Kalaigaon LAC (Non BTAD).

Environmental NGOs criticise forest policy

Assam Environmental NGO Forum organised a press meet at Guwahati Press Club on February 13 to clarify its stand on the unabated killing of rhinos and other wild animals in the state. Ramesh Chandra Saharia Memorial Lecture 2013 was held recently at Tangla on February 8 on the occasion of 31st death anniversary of late Ramesh Chandra Saharia of Tangla. 3 held for killing a hog deer at Samrang

An eleven months old hog deer has been killed at Samrang in Udalguri district at 10 AM on January 11.SSB and forest personnel arrested four persons of No. 2 Samrang namely- Lakhi Newar (45),Rajesh Tanti (16),Bishnulal Newar (40) for killing the hog deer.Another Bijoy Newar (22) has been evading arrest. Elephant calf rescued near Assam-Arunachal borde

A two months old wild elephant calf (male) was rescued which had been found near Assam-Arunachal border on December 17. According to information the Sarkari Gaonburah of Sikaridanga village informed forest officials of Mazbat Range Office about the presence of a lone wild elephant calf in the morning of December 17. A forest rescue team headed by MP Sarma, ACF, Dhansiri Forest Division rescued the calf on the same day at 12.30 pm. Another rescue team headed by Dr.Abhijit Bhawal of Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre (WTI) Kaziranga arrived at Mazbat in the evening to take care of the calf.
