Darrang College, a premier institution of higher education in the northern Assam, is organising a two-day national seminar on "Sustainable Growth of Eco-tourism in North-East India with special reference to Tezpur" on February 2, 2008 at the college premises.
Organised by the Department of Commerce and sponsored by the University Grant Commission (UGC), the sub-themes of the workshop will be community-based eco-tourism, eco-conservation of nature, eco-friendly destination planning and marketing, environmental impacts, prospects of rural tourism in Assam, eco-tourism and economic benefits, management problems of eco-tourism etc.

I was very interested to read the history of your college because the italian gentleman Mr. Duchi who sold his bungalow to the college was my grandfather.
My family and I are planning to visit Tezpur next March to see where my mother grew up. I wonder if you can tell me if the bungalow still exists and if so,what is the address.

I want to know about Balinarayan who was made the king of Darrang by Ahom King. He was a Barendra Brahmin. I have proof that he was powerful and was shivaet.
As I have found out that last raja(10th) of Darrang was Samudranarayan. I would like to know what happened to his family after East India Company illegally annexed Darrang along with Assam in 1826. I want to know the mane of his sons. As some one said that his son was taken to Phulbari and later to Bogra now in Bangladesh and was given 12 villages. He was declared a fugitive by British when he tried to organize revolt against the British. I shall be grateful if your history department could give some authentic account of the facts. It appears that almost nothing has been written about this aggressive family. The reason is I am deeply connected to Darrang but can not establish it for one missing link i.e name of the son of samudranarayan and his grand son.

I want to solve a mystery about the later rajas of Darrang. With Balinarayana started the rule of Brahmin kings in Darrang that ended in 1826 with the expedition of British. I want some facts on it if possible.
The North Eastern Council has begun its two-day plenary session in Agartala on Monday. Inaugurated by Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DONER) Mani Shankar Aiyar the meeting is being attended by all Chief Ministers and Governors of the region, barring Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. The meeting is schedule to sign 'Vision-220' document. Assam is set to be represented Minister for Planning and while PWD Minister of Arunachal Pradesh has arrived in Agartala. The session is also set to discuss a plan for tackling poverty in the region and development of roads, railways, tourism, information technology.
One person was killed and two others injured at a powerful bomb explosion at Alipurduar along the Assam-West Bengal border on Monday. It was an IED which was planted at a bicycle that exploded near a MVI Checkgate at Barebisa in Jalpaiguri district. The deceased was Gobin Sarma, a driver of the Bhutan bound vehicle from Assam. The two injured people are Sudam Barman and Suresh Shah. They have been rushed to the Alipurduar Civil Hospital. No militant outfit has so far owned up the responsibility.

Two dreaded ULFA militants died at an encounter with army in Baksa district last night. According to information, the encounter took place last night at Salbai village where two top ranked ULFA cadres left to death. They have been identified as sergeant Baba Rabha and Bhabesh Baishya. Later, a 9 mm pistil, a M-20 pistol and ten rounds of ammunitions have been recovered from their possession. Details are awaited. In yet another strike in the trouble torn North Cachar hills district, 8 people were killed by suspected DHD(J) militants at Faiding under Mahur police station in retaliation of Saturday’s joint operation at their camp at Heralu where they claimed to have lost 12 cadres. There is a flutter at the Gauhati University campus as its Vice Chancellor Dr Amarjyoti Chaudhory has resigned citing his failures to uplift the varsity due to lack of cooperation from the Assam Government. According to information,Dr Chaudhory has tender his resignation on Saturday afternoon. Details are awaited. Notably, Dr Chaudhory withdrew resignation last year after the government assured him of help to uplift it. Accordingly, the Government released released a huge Rs 1 crorer fund in December, 2007.
