Golaghat to remember Bhupenda

People of Golaghat from every walk and every strata of life are getting ready to mark the first death anniversary of Bhupen Hazarika, the 'bard of Brahmaputra’ in a remarkable way. The two day event, starting on 5th November, named “Sudhakantha Divas” is being organized by Golaghat Press Club in association with Golaghat Dist. Administration, Golaghat Municipal Board and more than twenty six different organization. It is for the first time in the history of Golaghat that such a large number of organizations including AASU,AJYCP, AISF, Congress, AGP, BJP etc leaving aside all their differences and conflict of ideologies gathered in a single platform to pay their homage to the maestro. From yesterday onward under the initiative of Anup Jyoti Choudhury, Dist. Information and Public Relation Officer and Cultural Secretary of Sudhakantha Divas, the Janasanjog has arranged for playing of the maestro’s immortal creations through sixteen number of mikes all over the town. These days when the clock strike 6.00 pm in the evening the entire town of Golaghat resonate with Manuhe Manuhor Baey, Bistirna Paroey and many more of his evergreen melodies.

This initiative is first of its kind anywhere in the state. “We are very hopeful that around ten thousand people will sing together but at the same time we don’t aspire to create any record but strived to ensure that the young generation adheres by the humanitarian value inherent in the song and in today’s hostile situation where people are gunning for each others life Manuhey Manuhor Babey is the right need of the hour” Choudhury said regarding the ensemble of ten thousand people singing Manuhey Manuhor Babey on 5th November. Choudhury further informed that as a mark of respect to the wanderer he has planned to display 150 photographs of Bhupen Da in his last journey along with the rendition of “Gaan Ekhon Noi… Gaan Ekhon Soi” a song by Dr. Amarjyoti Choudhury on a big screen on 6th November. Three life size statues of Jyoti Prasad Agarwalla, Bishnu Prasad Rabha and Dr. Bhupen Hazarika, the three icon of Assamese art and culture will also be unfurled on 6th November. More than two hundred organizations have registered themselves to felicitate Bhupen Da’s companion for over 30years and noted film maker Kalpana Lajmi along with Manisha Hazarika, sister-in-law of Bhupen Da, on 6th November.
