Sivasagar police have arrested five youths accusing them of raping a minor girl in Nazira on Saturday. Another accused is on the run. The youths were arrested on Saturday after receiving the complaint filed by the victim who alleged that she was raped by six youths on December 25.
The girl who worked at Bihubar Tea Estate in Nazira subdivision was allegedly raped by five men who threatened her parents not to go to the police. The parents, however, lodged an FIR with assistance of a NGO following which one of the five men, Powel Topno, was arrested. Efforts are on to trace the remaining accused.

Veteran Congress leader in Nazira Tonkeshwar Saikia breath his last at his own residence of Nazira Simaluguri on Thursday. He was 81 and survived by his wife, two sons and one daughter.
