Sadhana Das passes away

Sadhana Das (69 years), wife of a benevolent social worker of Jorhat Jiten Das has left her mortal body on 21st June, 2007 at Dispur Hospital, Guwahati. She has left behind her husband, her only son Mr. Jyotimoi Das and her two daughters along with many other relatives.

Arunachal Pradesh:Khandu announces 20 lakhs for diseased families

ITANAGAR : The State Government has announced Ex-gratia of Rs 20 lakhs for diseased families with government job and Rs 10 lakhs for seriously injured person in the recent protest against government's consideration to give  PRC to 6 communities. Three  protesters were killed in  police firing and  fine others injured in the recent orgy of violence in the state capital. JORHAT: The toll in the spurious liquor tragedy refuses to halt even after the loss of nearly 200 people in Jorhat and Golaghat districts forcing the government to launch a massive crackdown against the illicit liquor traders.  According to information, at the Jorhat Medical College Hospital alone 97 deaths have been reported since Friday night and all these people were rushed from Salamira and Titabor areas. Illicit liquor toll up, up, up

JORHAT: The ghost of spurious liquor continues to haunt the state after it claimed 150 lives in Jorhat and Golaghat districts from Friday. Around 137 others are still battling to survive at Jorhat Medical College Hospital and Golaghat Civil Hospital being attended by a section of medical specialists. Doctors told Assam Times that the toll might touch 200 mark since as many as 40 patients are in critical condition. “We have been closely monitoring the patients who need further observation. Jorhat: Both Jorhat and Golaghat districts have turned into a valley of death where at least 115 people died after consuming spurious liquor on Thursday night. The worst-hit area in Golaghat district is Salmira tea garden where 80 people, mostly, dead and 50 others have been battling for life at the Jorhat Medical College & Hospital (JMCH). Jorhat: The death toll in the illicit liquor tragedy in Golaghat and Jorhat districts is nearing 100 sending huge shock and anger across the state. According to an updated information, in Salmira area alone the toll has gone up to 70 including 5 more deaths from Merapani area. On the other hand, in the Borhola area in Jorhat district the toll has gone up to 17.
