Tirap ZPC elected unopposed

Chawang Lowang, Zila Parishad Member (ZPM) of Kapu Anchal Block under 57 Borduria-Bogapani assembly constituency was unanimously elected as Tirap District Zila Parishad Chairperson on 28th May at Khonsa, the district headquarters town of Tirap district of Arunachal Pradesh. He represents Indian National Congress. The three Independent candidates from Deomali, Soha and Lazu had also extended unconditional support to Chawang Lowang. It may be mentioned here that four INC and three Independent ZPM candidates won from Tirap in the recently concluded Panchayat elections. The Khela-Lamsa Anchal Block which was reserved for women ZPM candidate was won by Ms Sontung Bangsia of Khela village. The Khela village is under 57 Borduria-Bogapani Constituency while Lamsa is under 55 Khonsa-East Constituency.  During the panchayat poll Chawang Lowang won by 269 votes defeating one BJP and two Independent candidates from Kapu Block.

 Born in 1973 at Noksa village, the designated Tirap ZPC Chawang Lowang had been associated with various social and political associations and has vast experiences. He was the Congress Block President and Bazaar Welfare Secretary. He was also involved in many other social works in Tirap district. The election was conducted peacefully by Additional Deputy Commissioner and DPDO H. Matcha and Returning officers at community hall, Khonsa. Earlier, the newly elected panchayat leaders were administered oath of secrecy by the DPDO.  

 Arunachal Assembly Speaker Wanglin Lowangdong has congratulated the newly elected Tirap ZPC Chawang Lowang and hoped that Lowang would work selflessly for the development of Tirap district. Lowangdong also congratulated all the new PR leaders and urged them to work for the people in close co-ordination with the elected representatives of the district.

The much-awaited Panchayat elections in trouble-torn Tirap district in eastern Arunachal Pradesh concluded peacefully on Thursday. Two NSCN (K) cadres surrendered before Assam Rifles and Arunachal Pradesh Police at an army base in upper Assam today. The two cadres are self styled Lance Corporal Thothung Hakhun and self styled Sergeant Major Dapnong Tonglim. They also deposited two 7.65 mm pistols along with 20 rounds of live ammunition. Senior Assam Rifles, Arunachal Pradesh Police, civil administration  officials were present during the surrender. "The surrender of both the cadres is yet another achievement for the security forces in motivating youths who have gone out of their way to pick up arms in the name of so-called revolution", a senior Assam Rifles official said.
