JK Borgohain passes away

Veteran journalist, prolific writer and socio economic and political analyst Jatindra Kumar Borgohain passed away on Wednesday following a brief illness.

Borgohain died two died at the Hayat Hospital at around 2-50 in the afternoon two days after he was rushed to it following a serious ailment. Despite best “possible” treatment, he failed to recuperate. He was 72.

Borgohain, who hailed from Jakhalabandha area in Nagaon district started his career of service as an assistant professor of economics in JB College. In 1992, he came to Guwahati and joined as editor wioth a vernacular daily. Since then, he served several media houses. He further joined as  editor in chief with a city based news channel.  A pall of gloom descended as soon as the news of his demise spread like wild fire.

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi along with many other political and non political leadersand organizations expressed deep shock at his demise.

CBI to probe Lafiqul killing

The Central Bureau of Investigation is likely to probe in the sensational killing of amsu student leader in Kokrajhar which runs to in a hail of shock and anger across the state. Government forms SIT to inquire into killing of ABMSU President

Assam Government has constituted a Special Investigation Team headed by senior IPS Officer Anurag Tankhar having experience working with National Investigation Agency to undertake a through probe leading to the killing of ABMSU President Lafiqul Islam and corroborate the findings. This was stated in a press release from Chief Minister's office on Friday. Government of Assam also recommended CBI inquiry into the killing of ABMSU President and sent a letter to Union Home Ministry, the release said.

Modi assures aid to tide over flood

Prime minister Narendra Modi has assured Assam all possible to help the state mitigate the misery in the tine of flood as he reviewed the situation in Guwahati on Tuesday.
