JK Borgohain passes away

Veteran journalist, prolific writer and socio economic and political analyst Jatindra Kumar Borgohain passed away on Wednesday following a brief illness.

Borgohain died two died at the Hayat Hospital at around 2-50 in the afternoon two days after he was rushed to it following a serious ailment. Despite best “possible” treatment, he failed to recuperate. He was 72.

Borgohain, who hailed from Jakhalabandha area in Nagaon district started his career of service as an assistant professor of economics in JB College. In 1992, he came to Guwahati and joined as editor wioth a vernacular daily. Since then, he served several media houses. He further joined as  editor in chief with a city based news channel.  A pall of gloom descended as soon as the news of his demise spread like wild fire.

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi along with many other political and non political leadersand organizations expressed deep shock at his demise.

Trouble brews for AIUDF MLA

Trouble brews for an AIUDF legislator after he left himself on live in social media when he was participating at a discussion on the floor of the assembly on Friday. Escalating tension grips Nagaland

Violence continues to erupt in Kohima forcing the government to deploy army and para military forces to contain the situation in the Nagaland capital city on Friday. ED attaches Sinh’s property

The enforcement directorate has attached a huge property worth Rs 100 crore belonging to Matang Sinh and Manorsnjana Sinh in New Delhi in connection with the sharadha chit fund scam. The two flats owned by the jailed Sinhs at Doctor’s Lane in the Gole Market area were attached by ED on Thursday. Both Sinh and his estranged wife are now in the central jail in Kolkata.

Film maker facing interrogation

Controversial film maker Himansu Prasad Das will appear before police on Friday afternoon to face sedition charges for seeking ULFA-I help to run his movie in the halls. Das, whom police summoned to appear in connection with the charge agreed to face the action. He must face interrogation by a team of senior controversy who registered s suo moto case seeking help from the head of a banned rebel outfit. Is Centre serious on NRC!

Former chief minister Tarun Gogoi has raised serious doubts over the government’s sincerity on the process to update the national register of citizens. Participating in the debate on the governor's address on Thursday, the senior Congress leader said the process in processing at a snails pace. He observed that instead of detecting and deporting the immigrants, the Centre is trying to amend the Citizenship Act, 1955. He also questioned the delay in the complete sealing of the Indo-Bangla border even two years after NDA formed the government at the Centre.

Gogoi thrashes union budget

Senior Congress leader and former chief minister Tarun Gogoi thrashed the Centre alleging lack of proper care for Assam in the Union Budget.
