JK Borgohain passes away

Veteran journalist, prolific writer and socio economic and political analyst Jatindra Kumar Borgohain passed away on Wednesday following a brief illness.

Borgohain died two died at the Hayat Hospital at around 2-50 in the afternoon two days after he was rushed to it following a serious ailment. Despite best “possible” treatment, he failed to recuperate. He was 72.

Borgohain, who hailed from Jakhalabandha area in Nagaon district started his career of service as an assistant professor of economics in JB College. In 1992, he came to Guwahati and joined as editor wioth a vernacular daily. Since then, he served several media houses. He further joined as  editor in chief with a city based news channel.  A pall of gloom descended as soon as the news of his demise spread like wild fire.

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi along with many other political and non political leadersand organizations expressed deep shock at his demise.

JFA condemns scribe’s murder in Bihar

Journalists’ Forum Assam (JFA) expressed shock over the killing of one more scribe in Bihar on 12 November 2016. The unidentified criminals shot dead Dharmendra Kumar Singh, who was associated with Hindi daily Dainik Bhaskar, at Amra Talaab locality of Sasaram in Rohtash district. Singh, 38, was at a tea stall outside his residence during the morning hours, when three motor cycle-borne criminals fired at him indiscriminately. He was brought to the hospital, but Singh succumbed to his injuries on the way. Swachch Abhijan drive at Banglabari TE

A Swachch Abhijan drive was carried out at Banglabari Ashurline along the Banglabari Tea Estate today in Kokrajhar district. Over 200 villagers from grater Banglabari area participated the swachch abhijan to clean the village road, which was organized by Injot self help group in association with NERSWN NGO, Kokrajhar. The drive clean out all link roads along the Ashurline,Banglabari colony, Bhowmik basti which covered nearly 20 kms of the area. Local villagers appreciated the initiatives taken away by NGO in the area. 'The cleanliness drive has been taking up to make dirty free among the society', said an NERSWN NGO activist.

Flurry of activities in banks

All banks across Assam along with the other parts of the country are heavily busy with responding to the customers who have been making long queue to change the Rs 500 and Rs 1000 demoninatios following the RBI directives. Customers thronged in thousands in the bank premises from early in the morning to get their demonitions changed from Thursday. Police grill arrested APSC member

Police on Wednesday arrested APSC member Assam Samedur Rahman on corruption charges. The special investigation team set up to probe the allegations of corruption caught Rahman from Rangia early in the morning a week after they arrested chairman Rakesh Paul. Then the APSC member who was believed to have been hiding in Baksa district was brought in Guwahati where he is being interrogated at the 4th Assam Police Battalion (APBN) in Kahilipara. Legal option before Paul

A strong lobby is in a process to move a bail petition in the Gauhati High Court on behalf opf Rakesh Paul who a local court has remanded to 14 days police custody a day the APSC chairman was arrested in Dibrugarh. According to sources, Paul and his associates are contemplating to move the bail petition before the Supreme Court if the High Court refuses. Many stunning revelations are believed to have surfaced during the custodial interrogation of APSC chairman Rakesh Paul whom police arrested two days back in Dibrugarh.
