JK Borgohain passes away

Veteran journalist, prolific writer and socio economic and political analyst Jatindra Kumar Borgohain passed away on Wednesday following a brief illness.

Borgohain died two died at the Hayat Hospital at around 2-50 in the afternoon two days after he was rushed to it following a serious ailment. Despite best “possible” treatment, he failed to recuperate. He was 72.

Borgohain, who hailed from Jakhalabandha area in Nagaon district started his career of service as an assistant professor of economics in JB College. In 1992, he came to Guwahati and joined as editor wioth a vernacular daily. Since then, he served several media houses. He further joined as  editor in chief with a city based news channel.  A pall of gloom descended as soon as the news of his demise spread like wild fire.

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi along with many other political and non political leadersand organizations expressed deep shock at his demise.

The demand for Bharat Ratna to Dr Bhupen Hazarika has revived in Assam as the state observed the 90th birth day of the music maestro on Thursday. The All Assam Students Union (AASU) has demanded the country’s highest civilian award posthumously to the legendary musician who died a couple of years back. Workshop on Job and Self Employment Opportunities at Bajali College

AJYCP slams Govt on porous border

Voice of anger and protest marred the countrywide Teachers Day celebrations in Assam on Monday. Miffed at the disappointing decisions of the Government, many teachers in the schools and colleges staged dharna highlighting their demands on the teachers day from Monday morning. Steps to boost rail connectivity

In a rare dose of good news, the Centre has announced a slew of measures to improve the railway network in the north eastern region. A number of new trains are coming up to boost railway connectivity in the region. These include two full Satabdi trains from Tinsukia to Guwahati and from Naharlagun to Guwahati.
