JK Borgohain passes away

Veteran journalist, prolific writer and socio economic and political analyst Jatindra Kumar Borgohain passed away on Wednesday following a brief illness.

Borgohain died two died at the Hayat Hospital at around 2-50 in the afternoon two days after he was rushed to it following a serious ailment. Despite best “possible” treatment, he failed to recuperate. He was 72.

Borgohain, who hailed from Jakhalabandha area in Nagaon district started his career of service as an assistant professor of economics in JB College. In 1992, he came to Guwahati and joined as editor wioth a vernacular daily. Since then, he served several media houses. He further joined as  editor in chief with a city based news channel.  A pall of gloom descended as soon as the news of his demise spread like wild fire.

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi along with many other political and non political leadersand organizations expressed deep shock at his demise.

An intensified agitation awaits Raha demanding the proposed All India Institute of Medical Science in the central Assam area. Mobile dearer but gold gets cheaper

Wine, cigarette, mobile phones would be costlier while gold, molasses, mekhela chador, candle, feeding bottle, drinking water bottle, citronella would be cheaper. This was what Assam finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Tuesday. Himanta tables Rs 2880.91 cr deficit budget

Assam finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has tabled a Rs 2880.91 crore deficit budget for 2016-17 in the assembly on Tuesday. In his budget speech, Sarma said that the BJP-led government would keep the promises.  

Sanitary napkin-vending machine to be installed at GPC

With an aim to resolve the periodical problems, faced by the lady member-journalists, a sanitary napkin-vending machine will be installed at Guwahati Press Club. The coin-based automatic machine, sponsored by JCI  Guwahati Angels will be inaugurated at 3 pm on Wednesday.  Promoting the hygiene, an incinerator to destroy the used napkins will also be installed very soon at the press club premises, said a GPC statement.

Flood posing threat to Guwahati

A surging water level of the Brahmaputra will submerge the city of Guwahati by the next couple of hours if the steep rising trend in the water level is any indication. The mighty river has been flowing dangerously on Monday following the incessant rains in the catchment areas in Arunachal Pradesh. According to information, the water level of the river has gone up by 3 centimeters per hour till 4 in the city till Monday afternoon. The Opposition launched scathing attack on the BJP-led government in Assam on Monday alleging the brimful misery of the flood-hit people.
