JK Borgohain passes away

Veteran journalist, prolific writer and socio economic and political analyst Jatindra Kumar Borgohain passed away on Wednesday following a brief illness.

Borgohain died two died at the Hayat Hospital at around 2-50 in the afternoon two days after he was rushed to it following a serious ailment. Despite best “possible” treatment, he failed to recuperate. He was 72.

Borgohain, who hailed from Jakhalabandha area in Nagaon district started his career of service as an assistant professor of economics in JB College. In 1992, he came to Guwahati and joined as editor wioth a vernacular daily. Since then, he served several media houses. He further joined as  editor in chief with a city based news channel.  A pall of gloom descended as soon as the news of his demise spread like wild fire.

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi along with many other political and non political leadersand organizations expressed deep shock at his demise.

Cattle smugglers detained in Meghalaya

In an effort by the District Police to curb cattle smuggling through this district to Bangladesh yesterday late night the 13th January 2016, a team of SOT personnel acting on a tip off seized  five trucks and one Tata Mobile vehicle loaded with Ninety two cattles being transported illegally to Bangladesh. The trucks are detained at Pynursla Police Station, stated Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills, Shillong in a press release. The SOT personnel on 14th January 2016 then detained another three more trucks were intercepted at 12th Mile, Mylliem, where thirty four cattle were being illegally transported to Bangladesh. The final match between Janasadharan-Assam Talks and DY365 in the 3rd TG Baruah Memorial Media T20 Cricket Tournament 2016 has kicked off today morning. DY365 captain Dhiraj Hazarika won the toss and elected to bat. The team after utilizing all 20 overs scored 124. Diganta Deka (25) and Ankur Barthakur (18) contributed for DY365, where as Lakhyajit Gogoi took 2 wickets. In reply, Janasadharan-Assam Talks has scored 20 runs in 4 overs losing 4 wickets (till filing of the report).
