JK Borgohain passes away

Veteran journalist, prolific writer and socio economic and political analyst Jatindra Kumar Borgohain passed away on Wednesday following a brief illness.

Borgohain died two died at the Hayat Hospital at around 2-50 in the afternoon two days after he was rushed to it following a serious ailment. Despite best “possible” treatment, he failed to recuperate. He was 72.

Borgohain, who hailed from Jakhalabandha area in Nagaon district started his career of service as an assistant professor of economics in JB College. In 1992, he came to Guwahati and joined as editor wioth a vernacular daily. Since then, he served several media houses. He further joined as  editor in chief with a city based news channel.  A pall of gloom descended as soon as the news of his demise spread like wild fire.

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi along with many other political and non political leadersand organizations expressed deep shock at his demise.

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi on Friday made an aerial survey in the flood affected areas in Dibrugarh, Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Tinsukia and Sivasagar.He asked the authority to intensify relief and rescue operations in the flooded areas. He further alleged that the Centre has not released any fund to help the flood-hit lot. Congress leader Ripun Bora took on Sarbananda Sonowal a day after the Union minister Union minister claimed that the Centre has released funds for the flood affected people.Talking to reporters in New Delhi on Friday, Bora said that the Rs 270 cr fund released recently was the outstanding amount. “Sonowal is not perhaps not aware of these and that’s why, he has been saying so,” said Bora.       Bora took on the Narendra Modi  government saying that the Centre has done precious little to help the flood affected state.
The Gauhati High Court on Friday set up a special panel to look into the allegations against acting chief justice K Sredharan Rao. Taking up two different petitions against the Justice Rao a division bench of the court set up the committee. The bench asked the committee to submit the report within ten days. “We are satisfied with the move. Let our serious allegations against the Justice Rao be probed. A huge gathering of the highlanders in Manipur has raised three key demands on Thursday. The public meeting asked the hills side MLAs to resign apart from creation of independent administration for the hills districts.  Thirdly, they demanded immediate withdrawal of the three bills cleared by the assembly hours before the arson. 
One after another dissident Congress legislators start leaving the move to join BJP. The ongoing impasse over PIL in Gauhati High Court on Wednesday touched an all time low when a section of the agitating lawyers tried to prevent the acting Chief Justice from entering into the court premises.The high voltage drama took place at around 10 in the morning when acting Chief Justice K Sreedhar Rao arrived in the court premises. The city based media persons today remembered senior journalist Hiten Mahanta, who has passed away on 29 August 2015 in GNRC hospital, in a meeting held at Guwahati Press Club.
