JK Borgohain passes away

Veteran journalist, prolific writer and socio economic and political analyst Jatindra Kumar Borgohain passed away on Wednesday following a brief illness.

Borgohain died two died at the Hayat Hospital at around 2-50 in the afternoon two days after he was rushed to it following a serious ailment. Despite best “possible” treatment, he failed to recuperate. He was 72.

Borgohain, who hailed from Jakhalabandha area in Nagaon district started his career of service as an assistant professor of economics in JB College. In 1992, he came to Guwahati and joined as editor wioth a vernacular daily. Since then, he served several media houses. He further joined as  editor in chief with a city based news channel.  A pall of gloom descended as soon as the news of his demise spread like wild fire.

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi along with many other political and non political leadersand organizations expressed deep shock at his demise.

Gogoi stresses mechanism

The Centre devise an effective mechanism with China for trans-boundary rivers like the Brahmaputra to pursue water-sharing with the neighbouring country.  This was more or less of what chief minister Tarun Gogoi said when he was addressing the Assam Water Conference, 2015, in Guwahati on Friday.In his speech, Gogoi said it has become a necessity for the Centre to thrash out a water-sharing mechanism with all riparian countries as China is building dams on the mighty river. Union water resources minister Uma Bharati, Union minister of state for DoNER Jitendra Singh and state water resources minister Basanta Das were present at the conference.

Helping hand for carnage victims

Much to a major boost for the rehabilitation of the Adivasi carnage victims in Kokrajhar and Sonitpur districts, Tripura CPM has collected Rs 16.92 lakh.According to party leaders, the entire amount was collected from the villages, towns and from government employees. Security forced caught two dreaded militants belonging to the Dima Hasao National Army during a joint operation in Dima Hasao district on Friday. The joint team of 43 Assam Rifles and police launched the operation in Maibong area where a militant was captured in the wee hours. ONGC explosives in Sonai blast!

Security forces are examining the Sonai explosions from several angles a day after a 10 year old boy was left injured. Police officials are tightlipped on the findings so far. But they denied a jehadi link to the explosions.
