Veteran journalist, prolific writer and socio economic and political analyst Jatindra Kumar Borgohain passed away on Wednesday following a brief illness.

Borgohain died two died at the Hayat Hospital at around 2-50 in the afternoon two days after he was rushed to it following a serious ailment. Despite best “possible” treatment, he failed to recuperate. He was 72.

Borgohain, who hailed from Jakhalabandha area in Nagaon district started his career of service as an assistant professor of economics in JB College. In 1992, he came to Guwahati and joined as editor wioth a vernacular daily. Since then, he served several media houses. He further joined as  editor in chief with a city based news channel.  A pall of gloom descended as soon as the news of his demise spread like wild fire.

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi along with many other political and non political leadersand organizations expressed deep shock at his demise.

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi held the much-awaited cabinet meeting at his Koinadhara residence on Sunday evening. But contrary to what was widely expected no minister was asked to put in papers to reshuffle his cabinet. Pobitora wildlife sanctuary opens for tourists on Sunday a day after Kaziranga National Park. Forest minister Rockybul Hussain opened the sanctuary at a brief function in Morigaon this morning. Dispur is all set to hand over all the jihadi related cases to the National Investigation Agency for probe. The decision was finalized when Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi held a high level meeting with senior police and civil officials in Dispur on Saturday.According to official sources, NIA would be asked to probe these specific cases thoroughly as it has international ramification. A daily wage earner died a tragic death when a boulder fell on him in Morigaon district on Saturday. The incident took place atop the Sonaikuthi hills in Jagiroad when a huge boulder rolled down the hill and hit Arup Doley when he was illegally carrying out stone cutting.Four others who escape the death when they were cutting stones with Arup managed to flee spot the spot. RUPAK DAS, BAKSA: After a brief lull, rhino poaching has struck Manas National Park. Forest guards recovered the carcass of a full grown rhino at Dauzeng of the Bhuyapara range of the national park on Saturday. The horn of the animal which was believed to have been killed two or three days back was missing. The carcass bore three injury marks. The rhino was brought to this park along with four others from the Pabitara wildlife sanctuary in 2012 under the project Indian Rhino Vision-2020(IRV-2020). With this, the number of rhinos killed in this park has gone up to 8.
The Assam government is preparing for police commissionerate in Guwahati from January 1. The decision was finalized at a high level meeting in Dispur on Saturday. The government is finalizing a police commissioner for the premier north eastern city which is a DIG level police officer. Apart from the commissioner, the DGP has already proposed an additional police commissioner, two deputy commissioners. The government proposed the polie commissionerate in 2008 when serial blast rocked the city.
