JK Borgohain passes away

Veteran journalist, prolific writer and socio economic and political analyst Jatindra Kumar Borgohain passed away on Wednesday following a brief illness.

Borgohain died two died at the Hayat Hospital at around 2-50 in the afternoon two days after he was rushed to it following a serious ailment. Despite best “possible” treatment, he failed to recuperate. He was 72.

Borgohain, who hailed from Jakhalabandha area in Nagaon district started his career of service as an assistant professor of economics in JB College. In 1992, he came to Guwahati and joined as editor wioth a vernacular daily. Since then, he served several media houses. He further joined as  editor in chief with a city based news channel.  A pall of gloom descended as soon as the news of his demise spread like wild fire.

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi along with many other political and non political leadersand organizations expressed deep shock at his demise.

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi has asked the finance department officials to pinpoint the real issues confronting the state to help him prepare a practical budget in June. Presiding over the emergency meeting of the senior finance and planning department officials in Dispur on Friday, Gogoi said that the budget must reflect the real issues besetting the people for the last few years. Apart from minister for planning and development Tanka Bahadur Rai, chief secretary JS Khusla also attended the meeting.
The Centre is takingserious note of the rhino poaching cases in the Kaziranga National Park. This was what Union minister Sarbananda Sonowal told reporters after holding a huge convention of the party in the national park on Friday. He said that Union forest and environment minister Prakash Javadekar would soon visit the wolrd heritage site now riddled by repeated rhino poaching incidents. Sonowal further said that he would take up rhino poaching and immigration issue of the national park in the soon to be held cabinet meeting. He further said a high level probe would unearth the truth adding that if proved no minister, forest officer would be spared.  
Union minister for sports and youth welfare Sarbananda Sonowal on Friday instructed the Kaziranga national park authorties to firmly deal with the rhino poaching cases. Sonowal’s instruction came up when the Union minister held a crucial meet with Chief conservator of forest, Kaziranga national park authorities along with Golaghat and Nagaon deputy commissioners. He said that the Centre won’t allow the rhinos to be poached in the national parks and sanctuaries. 
BJP’s huge convention ended in Kaziranga on Friday with a pledge to go all out to woo the people. Addressing a press conference in Kaziranga at the end of the day long event, Union minister Sarbananda Sonowal  said that the Centre is aware of the real issues including rhino poaching and illegal infiltration from across the border. BJP leaders are pouring in at Kohora in Kaziranga to attend the huge convention on Saturday to discuss the party’s strategy to wrest power from Congress in a phase manner. Senior party leaders told Assam Times that the party’s first and foremost work is to formulate strategies to win three seats in the bye elections in Silchar, Jamunamukh and Lakhipur. State BJP unit is hoding a huge convention in Kaziranga on Saturday to formally unveil the party’s mission 84. The mission aims at wresting power from Congress with 84 seats in the 2016 assembly polls. To be opened by Union minister Sarbananda Sonowal who is also the BJP’s state preisdent, the meeting is set to go all out against Congress to woo the voters.     Apart from the seven newly elected MPs along with 4 MLAs, several district level party leaders have arrived in the convention site to join the event.
Come Monday. Guwahati is gearing up for the eastern regional roundtable conference on child rights. Organizers told Assam Times that sponsored by the NCPCR, UNICEF, ILO and ASCPCR, the event would take place at the Assam Administrative Staff College in Khanapara where senior ministers, government officials and child rights activists are expected to participate. The conference, fist of its kind in the state will have a panel discussion on the challenge of child labour.
Hardly a forthnight after his party’s deplorable show in the Lok Sabha polls, chief minister Tarun Gogoi has instructed the officials to expedite the process to udate NRC. Gogoi passed his strict instructions to the officials when he reviewed the progress of the project at his Koinadhara residence on Friday.    In a separate order, the chief minister has appointed Justice (Retd) PK Mushahary as the chairman of the police accountability commission .  Gogoi further appointed Shivabrata Kakoti and Parul Devi as the members of the commission.
