An irate mob in Golaghat killed a leopard after the animal attacked six person at a tea garden on Sunday. The incident took place at Jalan Tea Estate in the morning when the full grown leopard suddenly pounded on a garden worker as he was walking at around 6 in the morning. Then the animal managed to sneak into the tea estate injured six persons in six different incidents of attack during two hours. Then the local residents-----mostly the tea garden workers chased the leopard and was beaten to death. Forest officials reached the spot only after the leopard died in the mob attack. All the six injured people are battling for life in the Jorhat Medical College Hospital.

A special court in Guwahati has allowed Dibrugarh police probing the APSC to extract specimen signature of a deputy superintendent of police to ascertain the allegations against him. The police team on Wednesday moved the court seeking it's approval to probe the allegations against Himanta Hillol Saikia, a probationary DSP in Jorhat. Four unidentified rebels and an army major died during a fierce fighting between security forces and a joint team of ULFS-I and NSCN-K in Nagaland on Wednesday. The gun battle that lasted for nearly ten hours took place at a remote Naga village of Oting in Mon district. Security forces are fanning in and around Gossaigaon sun division in Kojrajhar in search of NC Joshi a day after suspected Santhal rebels kidnapped the senior officer of a tea garden in Guwahati. Police, however, recovered the abandoned vehicle belonging to Joshi in Chirang a couple of hours the rebels kidnapped him at gunpoint. According to information, Joshi along with three others was on a visit to a tea garden in search of labourers. He took three labourers on the way. But the trio forced Joshi to halt at an unmanned place.
