An irate mob in Golaghat killed a leopard after the animal attacked six person at a tea garden on Sunday. The incident took place at Jalan Tea Estate in the morning when the full grown leopard suddenly pounded on a garden worker as he was walking at around 6 in the morning. Then the animal managed to sneak into the tea estate injured six persons in six different incidents of attack during two hours. Then the local residents-----mostly the tea garden workers chased the leopard and was beaten to death. Forest officials reached the spot only after the leopard died in the mob attack. All the six injured people are battling for life in the Jorhat Medical College Hospital.

The Biswanath police have arrested two people on Saturday a day after the duo alleged to have attacked two neighbours for opposing to slaughter cattle nearby. Security forces are fanning in and around Gossaigaon sun division in Kojrajhar in search of NC Joshi a day after suspected Santhal rebels kidnapped the senior officer of a tea garden in Guwahati. Police, however, recovered the abandoned vehicle belonging to Joshi in Chirang a couple of hours the rebels kidnapped him at gunpoint. According to information, Joshi along with three others was on a visit to a tea garden in search of labourers. He took three labourers on the way. But the trio forced Joshi to halt at an unmanned place. The security forces on Wednesday arrested three youths in Pathankot area of Punjab when they were suspiciously moving in the area a day after the recovery of a bag contain some incriminating materials. Two women met watery grave in Lakhimpur when the boat ferrying a few people capsized on the middle of a river on Wednesday. The incident took place on the river Bogolijan which started swelling from Tuesday after NEEPCO released a huge volume of waters from its Ranganadi dam. As the boat reached the middle of the river, the boat suddenly capsized under the impact of the strong current forcing many local residents to come to the rescue of the passengers. A pall of gloom grips Meghalaya when nine people died during the last 24 hours since they ate rice packed with pork and chicken served at a church function in Ri Bhoi district on Sunday. More than 250 others have been receiving treatment in the various hospitals in Ri Bhoi and Shillong.
