Amid Bhugali bihu festivity at least eight persons were killed and 10 others have been injured in three different road mishaps on Tuesday wee hours.
In a shocking mishap, four policemen were killed when the Scorpio vehicle carrying them collided head with a truck in Laluk in the wee hours. Three others have been battling for life in GMCH.
The second mishap took place in Bogionadi where a Tata Mobile vehicle carrying 13 people turned turtle on the road early in the morning where 2 died on the spot while eight others injured have been rushed to the hospital.
In yet another accident 2 people were killed as an Indigo vehicle rammed into a bike in Hajo early in the morning. The bike duo died on the spot.

BJP leader's son kidnapped in Margherita

MARGHERITA: Security forces are fanning in search Arunav Phukan in Margherita a day after suspected ULFA-I rebels kidnapped the local BJP leader's son in Tinsukia district on Friday. Army, police and para military forces are concentrating the search operation along the Assam- Arunachal Pradesh border where he has gone missing as he was going to look after his father's business in Wala Basti. ULFA-I monitoring Golaghat shoot out

GUWAHATI: The United Liberation Front of Asom (I) has strongly condemned the recent shoot out in Golaghat where twelve tea garden workers were injured in firing by their owner. In a statement issued on Friday, the rebel outfit fighting for an independent Assam said they have been probing the incident and that the guilty must be punished. They said they would always be fighting for the suppressed and,marginalized section of the society.

No mercy for arrested ACS-APS officers

GUWAHATI: The Gauhati High Court has reserved its ruling on the bail petitions moved by 19 ACS and APS officers who were arrested in the APSC cash for jobs scam. A bench of Justice Rumi Kumari Phukan heard the bail petitions on Friday and reserved the ruling. The ruling is expected in a day or two. All of these officers have been sent to jail after the end of the police remand.  The court further heard the anticipatory bail petition of Nishamoni Deka who has been absconding since the police launched the massive drive against these ACS and APS officers. The Supreme Court has already rejected the anticipatory bail plea.    

PM to open investors’ summit: Sonowal

Teacher jailed for molest attempt

TANGLA: A local court in Tangla sent a senior teacher to jail in Panery after he allegedly attempted to rape a student sending anger in the entire area. He is non other than Nagen Kumar, who teaches in Phulkuchi Middle English. He tried to molest the student of class eight on December 8 last. Tea garden owners sent to jail

GOLAGHAT: A local court in Golaghat sent Subir Roy and Damir Roy to jail on Thursday a day after they shot at six of their tea garden workers for demanding wages. Police arrested the owner duo of the tea garden near Numligarh hours after the incident triggering anger among the workers who called district bandh on Thursday. They fired upon a group of workers when they demanded wages and bonus which they have not received. One worker received sustained injury while five others received mild injury who have been admitted in the Golaghat Civil Hospital.
