Actor joins TMC

Noted film actor Biju Phukan joined Trinamool Congress in presence of Mamata Banerjee at a function in Guwahati on Wednesday.

Phukan, who once contested the assembly polls from AGP told the TMC boss that he was prepared to fight the polls.

People thronged in thousands at the sarusajai Stadium to attend the TMC rally where Mamata Banerjee drew appreciation.

Ms. Banerjee clarified, while addressing a party rally in Guwahati, that Trinamool Congress was a part of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance government when it was headed by Atal Bihari Vajpayee but her party would not support any party that incites communal violence and hatred on the basis of religion, caste, creed or community.

Stop rhino poaching

Hundreds of people hit the streets in Kaziranga in protest against the unabeted rhino poaching in the national park. The protesters further snubbed the government for failing to stop the rampant poaching of the one horn animals in the state.AASU adviser Dr Samujja Bhattacharya who joined the protest demanded army deployment to stop poaching in the world heritage site. Poachers killed at least three rhinos in the last ten days amid the rush of tourists from the country and abroad. 

Rhino poaching revisits Kaziranga

Poachers have killed yet another rhino in Kaziranga on Sunday. The third one rhino poaching during the last ten days took place in Dhing where horn less carcass was spotted in the morning. Stung by the widespread protest and criticism, the forest department now talks of a a comprehensive plan to curb the menace of rhino poaching. Sources blamed KPLT militants for the repeated incidents of rhino poaching.

BJP to go it alone in 2016 polls

Assam BJP will go it alone in the next assembly polls. This was what central BJP leader Mahendra Singh said in Guwahati on Wednesday. The BJP heavyweight who is on a visit to Guwahati told reporters that the party has no plan to forge any pre poll alliance with other parties. According to Singh, the party has every strength to ensure landslide victory in the 2016 assembly polls.
