In a bid to promote more understanding on human rights and international humanitarian laws Volunteer’s Rural Development Society (VRDS) in association with Centre for Social Development, Manipur had organized a day long workshop on “International Humanitarian Laws and Human Rights at Tourist Lodge at Likabali on January 31. The main objective of the workshop was to make people familiar and aware on the human rights and how they are related to one’s life.
Speaking on the occasion Kombi Tao, Teacher from Govt HS School, Likabali has mentioned about violation of the human rights in the society and how they are prevalent in the community and the region. She has focused on human rights violation against women and mentioned about domestic violence. Ranjan K Baruah from North East Youth Foundation has mentioned about the International Humanitarian Laws and how they are related in conflict areas. He has also spoke about Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act 1958 and how it is prevalent in the north eastern region.
Rickar Taipodia, Secretary of VRDS has also shared his experience and said how human rights are important for every individual. Some of the participants includes Tom Taju, JYSU; Aage Nyori, LYVA; Bomken Nguri, KCSU; Teri Sikom , Jhum Land Protection Society; Yumjum Dini , SIMAKA apart from representatives from church bodies, SHGs and students from academic institutions. Mendak Nyokir, Community Organizer of VRDS gave vote of thanks and thanked all participants at the end. The programme was interactive and participants appealed the organizers to organize similar awareness programme in the future for the benefit of the public. VRDS shall organize similar programme in different parts of Arunachal Pradesh in near future.
