Actor joins TMC

Noted film actor Biju Phukan joined Trinamool Congress in presence of Mamata Banerjee at a function in Guwahati on Wednesday.

Phukan, who once contested the assembly polls from AGP told the TMC boss that he was prepared to fight the polls.

People thronged in thousands at the sarusajai Stadium to attend the TMC rally where Mamata Banerjee drew appreciation.

Ms. Banerjee clarified, while addressing a party rally in Guwahati, that Trinamool Congress was a part of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance government when it was headed by Atal Bihari Vajpayee but her party would not support any party that incites communal violence and hatred on the basis of religion, caste, creed or community.

Now Dispur writes to Delhi to restore ration to the tea gardens.   In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi urged the Centre to reconsider the move.Gogoi told the Prime Minister that the move would brew law and order trouble in the teagarden areas a couple of days after Assembly Speaker Pranab Kumar Gogoi said it on the floor in the winter session.According to the chief minister, the scheme has been benefitting over 20 lakh tea workers where the Governments provides APL rice and atta to the tea industry at subsidized rate. The management of the gardens, in turn, provide the same to the workers at the rate of 50 to 55 paisa per kilogram. 
Kokrajhar district administration conducted a cleanliness drive on Sunday to keep the environment clean and clear. Deputy Commissioner Thaneswar Malakar participated in the drive in front of the DC office. A huge group of 850 Delhi University students is arriving in Guwahati on Saturday to discover the north east afresh.
