Two dreaded NDFB-S militants were believed to have been killed at an encounter with army and police in Sonitpur district on Sunday.
The incident took place at Paharpur area in Rangapara bordering Arunachal Pradesh in the wee hours.
The encounter is learnt to have taken place when NDFB-S militants lobbed a grenade at an army patrolling vehicle in the area.
The army vehicle was partially damaged in the attack forcing police and army to retaliate with firing where two militants died on the spot.
Army and police officials held a crucial meeting in Tezpur on Saturday to strengthen patrolling in view of the BTAD violence.
