A tea stall owner was killed and three others sustained injury when suspected ULFA militants exploded a powerful blast in Goalpara district on Wednesday.
The explosion took place at around 8 in the morning at a stone's throw distance from the Krishnai police station where the person identified as Mujibur Rehman was killed on the spot.
The three injured have been identified as Akhtar Hussain, Kashimuddin and Jehrul Islam respectively who have been shifted to the hospital.
Later, Krishnai police have picked up four persons for interrogation and have registered a case under various sections relating to conspiracy, murder, Explosives Substances Act and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
Security forces arrived in the spot and cordoned off the entire area in search of the perpetrators. Nobody has so far claimed the responsibility of the explosion. But preliminary inputs suggest it a handiwork of ULFA’s Paresh Baruah faction who has been trying to make its presence felt.
The government has announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs 8 lakh to the next of kin of Mujibur and free medical treatment to the injured.
