In yet another landmark judgment, a trial court on Monday sentenced five persons to life imprisonment four years after they gangraped a girl from Manipur on a moving vehicle at Dhaula Kuan. Additional sessions judge Virender Bhat announced the quantum of punishment a couple of days after they were convicted in the shocking case. The five convicted men — Shamshad alias Khutkan, Usman alias Kale, Shahid alias Chhota Billi, Iqbal alias Bada Billi and Kamruddin were present inside the court when the quantum of punishment was announced for the offence. They were sentenced to seven years imprisonment for abduction charges while five other years rigorous imprisonment for charges of criminal intimidation apart from also imposing a fine of Rs 50,000 each on all the convicts. The relatives and defence counsels have already decided to move the high court to challenge the judgment. The incident took place in November in 2010 when the call centre employee who hails from Manipur was forced into the vehicle near Nanakpura gurdwara at 1.21am to be gangraped and dumped in a semi-conscious state in Mongolpuri Industrial Estate in the wee hours.
