Normal life remains paralyzed on Friday in Tinsukia district following a 24 hour bandh called by the Tai Ahom Yuva Parishad in protest against the assault on one of their leader.

Roads in most parts of the district remained completely deserted as vehicles refused to ply during this period. Shops and markets, schools and colleagues, banks and offices remained closed under impact of the bandh.

CRPF jawans on Thursday assaulted Tai Ahom Yuva Parishad’s Digboi branch president Prashanta Buragohain at Digboi bereft of any reason.

Talking to www.assamtimes.org, the NGO officials said the main objective is to give free legal advice to the rural people in Margherita and its neighbouring areas. The speakers in the opening ceremony hoped that the cell would be of immense benefit for the rural people. Papu Sah. AJYCP hits streets in Margherita

MARGHERITA: Hundreds of people hit the streets in Margherita on Friday outlining a slew of demands which they want to be fulfilled at an earlier date. Organized by AJYCP’s Margherita unit, the protesters thronged Segunbari NH 38 Road shouting slogans in support of their demands. Rebel linkman caught in Margherita

MARGHERITA: Armed men keep moving along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh unleashing terror among the people these days. Security forces nabbed the linkman of a rebel outfit during the stepped up operation in Margherita on Sunday. Identified as Nongbu Singhpo, the was caught from the Shyam Talkies hall in the town who is a resident of Wagon 1 District Changlang Arunachal Pradesh. A point 22 Pistol along with a Magazine and Mobile phone were seized from his possession. Margherita police have been interrogating him to extract the details of his activities.

MARGHERITA: In a bid to highlight the pathetic plights of the National Highway No 38 in Margherita many local residents living on the roadside resorted to mock fishing and cultivation Saturday.    Led by Chatra Mukti Sangram Samity’s Tinsukia district committee, the local residents joined the mock session alleging that Pradyut Bordoloi from Congress has been doing nothing on this front. Needed ITI in Ledo

MARGHERITA: Activists of Chatra Mukti Sangram Samity’s Margherita unit staged three hour long sit in strike at Ledo ITI College premises on Thursday demanding steps  to open the ITI since the construction works are over. Pappu Dutta General Secretary of CMSS Tinsukia District Committee told www.assamtimes.org that the ITI has been one of the long standing demands of the entire  Margherita Constituency.  “But sadly, we have not seen the light of the day. ULFA-I rebel held

  MARGHERITA: Army claimed to have captured yet another dreaded ULFA-I rebel who played a major role in the shoot out at a tea garden in Barhat last month. He is one other than Deepjoyti Gogoi whom army’s DAO division attested on Monday night and seized a pistol and four live rounds of bullets from his possession. During interrogation he confessed to have possessed these to carry out extortion. Blackmailers held in Margherita

MARGHERITA: The Margherita Police on Saturday arrested four youths after the All Assam Schedule Caste Youth Federation Central Committee leaders tried to blackmail a local SBI employee. Identified as Jayanto Das(38) Ripu Das(32),Bolendra Das(37) and Pabitra Das, they allegedly demanded ₹7 lakh from the bank employee charging him of possessing a fake caste certificate, an allegation which the banker denied. The bank employee then lodged a formal complaint before the police who arrested the youths. After interrogation by police a local court reminded them to judicial custody acting on the case has been registered at Margherita Police Station case Number 48/18 US 387.

Naga rebels caught in Arunachal Pradesh

MARGHRITA: Despite a stepped up counter insurgency operation rebels keep moving to monger troubles along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border these days.  Security forces claimed to have captured two NSCN-R rebels in Arunachal Pradesh on Saturday and seized some incriminating materials from their possession.   According to information, identified as Jongsham Chena and Chedang Chena, the biker duo were apprehended near New Longtoi bridge by 14 Assam Rifles jawans early in the morning. Two pistols along with ammunitions, brown sugar were seized from their possession.  

Take over Bogidhola estate

MARGHERITA: The Asom Sangrami Chah Shramik Sangha affiliated to CPI(ML) Panitola Circle Committee on Tuesday submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister through the Tinsukia District Deputy Commissioner to increase the daily wages of tea workers to Rs 350. The committee further has urged the government  to take over the Bogidola Tea Estate and to immediately arrest those who were involved in the killing of Asom Sangrami Chah Shramik Sangha leader Gangaram Kaul.  The committee maintained that several programme were conducted by members of Asom Sangrami Chah Shramik Sangha and AICCTU regarding to increase the daily wages of Tea Garden workers of Assam  to Rs 350...
