ABSU conference begins today
Kokrajhar ABSU is gearing up for the annual conference on Tuesday. The venue is Kazigaon Gurudev Kalicharan Nwgwr in Parbatjhora. The three days conference is full if delegate session, literary competitions,games & sports along with cultural functions on December 16,17 and 18.
ABSU president Promod Boro will attend the main conference as chief guest on Wednesday. Others include Prof Hemanta Kumar Baruah,Vice-Chancelore of Bodoland University and Rwngwra Narzary.

The science based competitions organized at Bholabari High School near Kalaigaon on April 29 and 30 by Aryabhatta Science Centre,Kalaigaon in association with Assam Science Technology & Environment Council Guwahati attracted a large number of crowd. Hoisting of Aryabhatta flag by Padmadhar Bhattacharya, headmaster of Bholabari HS marked the beginning of the two days programme on April 29 at 10 am. where science based extempore speech and science based poster drawing competitions were conducted by Keshab Saharia,asstt. Coordinator of ASC Kalaigaon. Students from 12 schools produced spectacular display of their innovative ideas through colourful posters on various themes like global warming,climate change,pollution, conservation of wild life and nature etc. Science based model competition and exhibition was arranged on April 30, which was inaugurated by Jagadish Sarkar, newly elected MCLA of BTC.On the occasion he thanked Aryabhatta science movement in the state under the supervision of ASTEC Guwahati for the promotion of science and technology in the rural areas.Jayanta Das, coordinator of ASC Kalaigaon welcomed all the guests,teachers,students and people in the early hours of the technical session where several distinguished scientists and science organizers of the state namely Dr. R K.Barman,HOD,Science & Technology and Nayanjyoti Deka,Project Scientists of ASTEC; Dr.Khalilur Rahman former HOD,of Physics department of Mangaldai College and Madhab Sarma ,Principal JNV Kalaigaon were falicitated with gamochas for their contribution in popularising science among people. Dr.R K Barman and Dr.Khalilur Rahman had interesting iteractive session with hundreds of child scientists present answering questions on various topics like -black hole,space station, time zone, GPS,creation of the universe etc.Children as wel as the people were shown spectacular videos including one on Michael Finke's space journey (prepared by Dr.S K Choudhury, Director of ASTEC) where Michael had performed Bihu dance in the space station.The technical session was also addresed by Biren Sarma,president of the receiption committee. Madhab Sarma,Principal,JNV Kalaigaon and president of ASC Kalaigaon presided over the proceeding of the second day where prizes had been awarded to the winners.
In the science based extempore speech competition Priyanka Talukdar (Maharishi Vidya Mandir,Tangla),Jayanta Debnath (Bholabari HS) Dipananda Basumatari (Arunodoi Academy,Tangla) won first three places.In the science based poster drawing competition Khanjan Das (Maharishi Vidya Mandir,Tangla), Upamanyoo Das (Arunodoi Academy, Tangla) and Meenakshi Nath (Kalaigaon Girls MV School) won first three places while Jurity Saharia (Bholabari HS)won the consolation prize.In the science based model competition -Eunush Daimari (Arunodoi Academy,Tangla),Juriti Saharia and Himashree Saharia (Bholabari HS),Doli Saharia and Krishna Kalita (Kalaigaon Girls MV School) won first three places in group A;while Jubin Sarma and Chinmoyjyoti Kashyap (GK Ganakpara GMP School) and Anupam Bhardwaj and Trinayan Deka (Bholabari JB LP School)won first two prizes in group B. All the first three winners of Group A will take part in the Udalguri district level science competition to be held at Udalguri in the next month.

As many as eleven people from Panikhaity area in the outskirt of the city have been admitted to the Guwahati Medical College following some complaints resembling to kala azar. But the medical authority have yet to confirm it saying kala azar could be confirmed only after the necessary test. But his has forced the authority to sound alert in view of these chronic and potentially fatal parasitic diseases. The GMCH authorities have said they have been conducting tests but the results have yet to come. The state health department is set to sent instructions to all district administrations to deal with the situation firmly.

Dispur steps up probe into the recent molestastion of a teen ag girl in the heart of Guwahati. Altogether 12 molesters have been book while a team of police has been tracing a suspecious phone call in Bhubneswar by the prime accused Amarjyoti Kalita.
In a major development, police team set up to probe the case is preparing to arrest Gauravjyoti Neog after marathan interrogation at the Bhangagarh police station.
On telephone DGP JN Choudhury is understood to have told Union home secretary RK Singh that the whole incident was orchestrated by the journalist who would be arrested.
Singh is understood to have told Choudhury to speed up investigations and arrest all the 14 culprits. The state police has so far arrested seven persons.
Guwahati senior superintendent of police Apurba Jiban Barua, under whose jurisdiction the incident took place, has been transferred to Dibrugarh. Now, Dibrugarh SP Arabinda Kalita will take over as SSP Guwahati.
