Serial attack toll goes up

The death toll in the NDFB-S attacks on the Adivasi people in Kokrajhar and Sonitpur districts has gone up to 68 with the recovery of 20 more people in both the districts on Wednesady. Kokrajahar alone has a toll of 25 people in Serfanguri and Ultapani.

Security forces and local residents have been recovered ten morebodies in a village at Pakriguri in Serfanguri in the morning on Wednesday a day after NDFB-S militants unleashed violence on the innocent people. Eight others have sustained injury who have been battling for life in the Kokrajhar Civil Hospital.

Security forces recovered 6 bodies on Tuesday night. They were deceased, including 2 minor boys were identified Sonmai Murmu (10), Sunita Hasda(10), Moni Beshra (18) and Marium Murmu(45). Identified as Thala Tudu(7), Anniniya Tudu (10) and Stefen Hasda(15).

On the other hand, 6 other bodies surfaced in Ultapani a day after the militants struck on the villagers along the Indo-Bhtan border in the evening. With this in Kokrajhar district alone the toll has gone up to 26. This apart from 43 others killed in the simultaneous attacks in Sonitpur district.

Security forces have intensified their combing operation against militant outfits in the region.  Three link men/over ground worker of the National Democratic Front of Boroland-Songbijit faction were apprehended by security forces in a joint operation at Ripu Reserve Forest on Sunday morning in Kokrajhar district. A businessman was hospitalized after attacked with sharp weapon by miscreants at Champa bazaar area on Friday evening in Kokrajhar district. In a joint operation launched by the security forces from Assam Police and Army apprehended a cadre of Kamatapur Liberation Organization (KLO) at Salakati village under Kokrajhar PS on Friday.  He was identified as Sonaram Roy of Balagaon area of Kokrajhar district. An emergency response mock drill was conducted by the Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) at Habrubari in Kokrajhar district on Friday,which was a part of offsite emergency mock on the IOCL Guwahati-Siliguri underground pipeline to test the preparedness of its emergency personnel. A live fire fighting exercise was carried out alongside the drill by Fire and Rescue Services personnel.
