An eerie silence prevails in Tezpur a day after Assam Rifles jawans shot dead two persons for refusing to serve liquor. The accused Assam Rifles jawns have been absconding.
Local residents in the town are angry with the growing activities of the para military force. Talking to Assam Times on Monday local residents who refused to be named said that for the last couple of weeks, a section of Assam Rifles jawans have been suspiciously roaming in and around the town.
“Some times they start creating scene in the parks and public places. Even school and college girls are scared of freely moving on the road fearing them,” said a few local residents.
Another local resident told Assam Times that the authorities are least bothered and they have no control oer the para military forces which was why the tragic incident took place on Sunday.
The incident took place in Tezpur at Mission Chariali on in the evening while a family denied to serve the liquor.
Two person died in the firing at Patia Chuburi. The deceased were identified as Gautam Das and Babu Das. Jinu Das who sustained injury in the firing is battling for life at the Kanaklata Civil hospital.
