It was a homely meeting organized at Guwahati Press Club that witnessed the release of a travel fiction titled Ontarior Seuj Dalisat (Over Green Carpet of Ontario) and penned by Dr Jagadindra Raychoudhury in presence of several senior journalists. Inaugurating the book, Swapnaneel Barua, a scholar and also a senior bureaucrat of Assam, pointed out that the writer not only documented various events related to his visit to Canada, but also painted a humanist reminiscence with his created characters.
The function, held on 1 July 2015, was also addressed by senior journalists like Hiten Mahanta, Rupam Barua, PJ Barua, Mukul Kalita, Ranen Kumar Goswami, Nava Thakuria and Pramod Kalita. Moderated by journalist Sabita Lahkar, the meeting was graced by acclaimed story writer Jyotish Sikder, professors Anup Talukder & Nirmali Medhi, singers Anindita Choudhury & Kishor Giri and Bitopan & Sneha. A prolific writer, Dr Raychoudhury is an associate professor of B Barua College, Guwahati and contributor to various Assam based newspapers and magazines. A smiling personality Dr Raychoudhury is also a regular participant in various radio programs and television talk shows. Published by Basundhara publication of Hatigaon in Guwahati, the book has 192 pages with a nice cover designed by prominent artist Padma Singha. It is priced at Rs 250/- per copy.

A 12 hour Assam bandh has thrown life out of gear across the state on Friday. Roads started wearing a deserted road. Police have arrested a hardcore NDFB-S militant who is believed to have exploded the recent powerful bomb in Sonitpur district. Identified as Babu Basumatary, the militant was picked up this morning in Dhubri during an intensified operation. Acting on a tip off, police conducted a search operation at Bilasipara area where the militant was picked up. A pistol and a few rounds of bullets have been recovered from his possession. Interrogation is going on. At least seven people including a tea garden official sustained serious injury when NDFB-S militants lobbed the powerful grenade at a public place in Itakhula along the Assam-Nagaland border.
Chief minister Tarun Gogoi has arrived in Guwahati on Friday. Gogoi, who left for New Delhi last week landed at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport at 9-30 in the morning.Sources told Assam Times that the party high command has already approved his list of new ministers and asked him to reshuffle the cabinet. Police have arrested yet another person in connection with the Burdwan blast in West Bengal on October 2. Identified as Zarakia Ali, the businessman in Barpeta was picked up three days back to be arrested on Thursday after marathon interrogation at the Special Branch office at Kahilipara in Guwahati. Reliable sources told Assam Times that at least 30 people are wanted in this connection and that the arrest of 10 of them are crucial.
