It was a homely meeting organized at Guwahati Press Club that witnessed the release of a travel fiction titled Ontarior Seuj Dalisat (Over Green Carpet of Ontario) and penned by Dr Jagadindra Raychoudhury in presence of several senior journalists. Inaugurating the book, Swapnaneel Barua, a scholar and also a senior bureaucrat of Assam, pointed out that the writer not only documented various events related to his visit to Canada, but also painted a humanist reminiscence with his created characters.

The function, held on 1 July 2015, was also addressed by senior journalists like Hiten Mahanta, Rupam Barua, PJ Barua, Mukul Kalita, Ranen Kumar Goswami, Nava Thakuria and Pramod Kalita. Moderated by journalist Sabita Lahkar, the meeting was graced by acclaimed story writer Jyotish Sikder, professors Anup Talukder & Nirmali Medhi, singers Anindita Choudhury & Kishor Giri and Bitopan & Sneha. A prolific writer, Dr Raychoudhury is an associate professor of B Barua College, Guwahati and contributor to various Assam based newspapers and magazines. A smiling personality Dr Raychoudhury is also a regular participant in various radio programs and television talk shows. Published by Basundhara publication of Hatigaon in Guwahati, the book has 192 pages with a nice cover designed by prominent artist Padma Singha. It is priced at Rs 250/- per copy.

we know or have read many travel related books but "Ontario'r heuj dolisat" is not only a travel experience but is a travel fiction..A great experience as you keep on reading this book and gain new knowledge & issues..we expect many new books from him and wish him success..

A CRPF jawan was killed at a sudden incident of shoot out inside a CRPF camp in Nagaon district on Monday. The incident took place in the morning inside the Hojai based CRPF camp when Jawan Shivam suddenly started indiscriminate firing at his colleague Ashok Kumar who died on the spot.Sources told Assam Times that Shivam was not in a good state of mind for the last couple of months. Investigation is going on to ascertain the reason.
A crucial meeting between Dispur and Kohima is trying its level best to end the decade old border conflict between the states on Monday. Chief secretaries along with top ranked officials both the states are meeting in Dispur in presence of the Naga Tribes Association of Border Areas called at the instance of prime minister Narendra Modi who wants an amicable settlement of the conflict.The meeting with the two chief secretaries, earlier scheduled for November 15, had been postponed due to unspecified reasons, they said adding that UNTABA is scheduled to meet the PM after the joint meeting with the chief secretaries of both the states.
Assam Sahitya Sabha on Sunday elected Dr Dhrubajyoti Bora as its new president for the next two sessions. Dr Bora’s name was announced at its office in Diphu where the entire process completed on Sunday.Dr Bora, who is by profession is a doctor had authored several books in Assamese literature apart from contributing any thought provoking write ups in news papers and periodicals. Dr Bora will succeed noted litterateur Rong Bong Terang.Many organizations and individuals have congratulated Dr Bora fo being elected as the president of the state's biggest literary organization.

The Bollywood personality who owns the North East United FC in the Indian Super League will kick off a CSR campaign to save the endangered rhinos. Addressing a press conference in Guwahati on Sunday he said,” since I am an animal activist and you all know about my involvement on the save tiger project. Therefore, I am naturally very much interested to launch a mission to save the rhinos from January.” But he refused to share details of the campaigns to protect the one horned animals from the impending threats.
Despite overwhelming protests across the country, racial attack on the north east people refuses to die down in New Delhi. The last victim is a woman from Assam who stays alone in the capital since her husband passed away a couple of months back. The incident took place in Mundka area where four local goons gangraped her inside her room recently. Police rushed to her house after a neighbor informed the incident over telephone. Police caught the goons red handed and then the court sent her to the Tihar jail. Initially, the 30 year old woman was rushed to Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital from where she was referred to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital. ................
BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary expressed serious concern over rising incidents of extortion cases by NDFB-S in the BTAD area. He said if need be the Bodoland Peoples Front (BPF) will stage protest rally against the outfit in every district.Talking to reporters in Kokrajhar on Saturday, Mohilary said that NDFB was carrying out extortion in the entire area much to a major concern.
