It was a homely meeting organized at Guwahati Press Club that witnessed the release of a travel fiction titled Ontarior Seuj Dalisat (Over Green Carpet of Ontario) and penned by Dr Jagadindra Raychoudhury in presence of several senior journalists. Inaugurating the book, Swapnaneel Barua, a scholar and also a senior bureaucrat of Assam, pointed out that the writer not only documented various events related to his visit to Canada, but also painted a humanist reminiscence with his created characters.
The function, held on 1 July 2015, was also addressed by senior journalists like Hiten Mahanta, Rupam Barua, PJ Barua, Mukul Kalita, Ranen Kumar Goswami, Nava Thakuria and Pramod Kalita. Moderated by journalist Sabita Lahkar, the meeting was graced by acclaimed story writer Jyotish Sikder, professors Anup Talukder & Nirmali Medhi, singers Anindita Choudhury & Kishor Giri and Bitopan & Sneha. A prolific writer, Dr Raychoudhury is an associate professor of B Barua College, Guwahati and contributor to various Assam based newspapers and magazines. A smiling personality Dr Raychoudhury is also a regular participant in various radio programs and television talk shows. Published by Basundhara publication of Hatigaon in Guwahati, the book has 192 pages with a nice cover designed by prominent artist Padma Singha. It is priced at Rs 250/- per copy.

The flood toll has gone up to 30 with 14 more bodies were recovered from Goalpara and Kamrup(Rural) districts on Wednesday.NDFR and SDRF fished out 6 bodies from Bolbola and Krishnai areas of Goalpara. Eight other bodies were recovered from Kamrup(Rural) district. Four others are still missing. Goalpara district administration has set up 94 relief camps to accommodate one lakh people.Agriculture Minister Nilamoni Sen Deka and Forest Minister Rakibul Hussain have been camping in the district and to coordinate the relief and rescue operations.
The Assam government has ex-gratia of Rs 3.5 lakh to the next of kin of those who lost their lives in the current floods.The formal announcement was made on Wednesday after the flood toll went up to 30 from 14. In Goalpara district alone altogether 14 bodies were fished out.In Kamrup (Rural)ten bodies were found apart from four other remaining traceless. Rescue operations are on and the situation was improving gradually on Wednesday.Traffic along NH 37 has resumed but they were moving very slowly as several parts of it are still submerged.
Flood waters start receding in Guwahati. But at a snail’s pace. The situation is gradually improving following the halt of rains. The flood toll has gone up to 14 during the last three days. The toll in Goalpara alone stands at 8 after cloudburst wreaked havoc in the Assam-Meghalaya border on Monday. Of them, 4 were women. Several people have been remaining traceless in the district. Ten HS and HSLC toppers this year are all set to leave for USA on a 12 day educational tour next month. Courtesy Dispur. The Assam government is making all arrangement to take the toppers to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).According to an official statement, the entire tour will be sponsored by the 'Deba Kumar Bora Memorial NASA Visit 2014' for the first three HSLC toppers and first position holder of 12th standard in each of Arts, Science and Commerce streams.During the 12 days tour, the students would be taken to John F Kennedy Space Centre, University of Florida, AT&T Bell laboratory, Benz manufacturing factory, and visit Washington and New York cities.
There seems to be no let up in the flood scene on Tuesday that ravaged four districts forcing the authorities to deploy 11 NDRF teams comprising 550 personnel in relief and rescue operations. Chief minister Tarun Gogoi has cancelled his Germany visit. This is for the second time, the chief minister has skipped his proposed visit. He was scheduled to visit Germany from September 28 to October 5.
