It was a homely meeting organized at Guwahati Press Club that witnessed the release of a travel fiction titled Ontarior Seuj Dalisat (Over Green Carpet of Ontario) and penned by Dr Jagadindra Raychoudhury in presence of several senior journalists. Inaugurating the book, Swapnaneel Barua, a scholar and also a senior bureaucrat of Assam, pointed out that the writer not only documented various events related to his visit to Canada, but also painted a humanist reminiscence with his created characters.

The function, held on 1 July 2015, was also addressed by senior journalists like Hiten Mahanta, Rupam Barua, PJ Barua, Mukul Kalita, Ranen Kumar Goswami, Nava Thakuria and Pramod Kalita. Moderated by journalist Sabita Lahkar, the meeting was graced by acclaimed story writer Jyotish Sikder, professors Anup Talukder & Nirmali Medhi, singers Anindita Choudhury & Kishor Giri and Bitopan & Sneha. A prolific writer, Dr Raychoudhury is an associate professor of B Barua College, Guwahati and contributor to various Assam based newspapers and magazines. A smiling personality Dr Raychoudhury is also a regular participant in various radio programs and television talk shows. Published by Basundhara publication of Hatigaon in Guwahati, the book has 192 pages with a nice cover designed by prominent artist Padma Singha. It is priced at Rs 250/- per copy.

A least ten KMSS activists sustained injury when police sprang upon them for trying to disrupt chief minister’s poll rally in Majuli on Wednesday.The incident took place in the Kamalabari area when Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi was addressing a rally to campaign for Ranee Narah who is contesting from Lakhimpur.All of a sudden, over one hundred KMSS activists started showing black flags to the chief minister. Some others shouted slogans against Gogoi.Security forces deployed there resorted to lathicharge to disperse the protesters where at least ten protesters sustained injury.

Nagaon BJP candidate Rajen Gohain and his AGP counterpart Mridula Borkakoty filed their nominations to contest in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls slated for April 24.Accompanied by over 500 the sitting MP reached the Nagaon Deputy Commissioner’s office premises at 12-30 in the afternoon where he filed his nomination papers before the returning officer.On the other hand, accompanied by senior leaders along with many party workers the AGP candidate took out a procession across the Nagaon town for two hours. This was followed by the filing of her nomination papers.The election in this third phase will take place on April 24 in Nagaon along with Barpeta, Dhubri, Mongoldoi, Kokrajhar. 
Three workers including a women were killed and three others sustained injury when miscreants fired upon a group of people who were building a bridge in Gossaigaon on Wednesday.The incident took place at Kochugaoon Borbzar area at around 11-30 in the morning  when three motorcycle born youths halted and started firing indiscriminately at the workers engaged in the bridge construction site.Identified as Rajjib Mushahary, Ashatun Bibi and Khairbur Sheikh were killed on the spot. Immediately after it the miscreants fled from the spot.After arriving in the spot, security forces cordoned off the entire area to nab the miscreants. The injured were rushed to the hospital.  
Tezpur Congress candidate Bhupen Bora on Wednesday dared BJP and NDFB-S to kill him by April 7.Addressing a poll rally at Napam area, Bora reiterated his allegations of the party’s nexus with NDFB-S to kill him. He said that he would be happy if he is killed for the sake of people whom he respects.Notably, a senior BJP leader disclose recently that BJP has struck a secret deal with NDFB-S to help the party win the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.  
Chief minister Tarun Gogoi has urged the people to judge the Congress governments in Delhi and Dispur by the performance during the last ten years.Addressing a poll rally in Silapothar to campaign for Ranee Narah on Wednesday, Gogoi said the AGP-led govt in Dispur and the NDA government at the Centre has done precious little for the people of Dhemaji.He said that his government would leave no stone unturned to give the backward areas a fresh lease of life.
