Dr Birubala Rabha conferred UN Brahma award

Noted social activist and organiser of Mission Birubala Dr Birubala Rabha was conferred the 12th Upendra Nath Brahma Soldier of Humanity Award, 2015 at a function held at Commerce College auditorium hall today in Kokrajhar. 

The award has been giving every year in the name of Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma, former president of the All Bodo Students Union ( ABSU) and noted educationist by Upendra Nath Brahma Trust (UNBT) to keep alive of ideology and philosophy among society. 

The award carries a citation, momento, traditional Aronai and cash 50,000. 

Dr. Rabha accepting the award expressed her happiness said that it has encouraged more to work to the social protection among society. She said that she will gain more step to create awareness more on social protection and humanity. 

Among others, noted writer Brajendra Kumar Brahma, sahitya academy awardee Janil Kumar Brahma, Pramod Boro, president of Absu, UG Brahma, ex MP were present on the occasion.

SSB 16th Battalion seized a tractor loaded with 69 piece of gamari logs  from Balajhar area near Janata bazar, bordering Bhutan, in Chirang district on Tuesday. The seized logs is stated to be worth around 8 lakhs ruppes. Seven persons were arreated in this connection. They have identified as Manwar hussain(22), Mamnal Mak (23), Abdul Barik Ali (25),  Md Abasuddin(25),  Lalson Ali(30), Abdul Aziz(37) and Niren Basumatary(38). The seized materials and the arrested persons were handed over to concern department at Kajalgaon in the district headquarter today.
The World AIDS Day was organised in Kokrajhar with various awarness programme among the public. The Discovery Club, a Kokrajhar based NGO observed the day by organizing a mass campaign on the occasion by distributing IEC materials and Red Ribbon Badges at Kokrajhar. 4000 leaflets, 1200 Red ribbon badges were distributed among the public. The main objective of the occasion was to make people aware about the HIV/AIDS and to partner with every stakeholder in fighting the disease in the district.

A women empowerment workshop was organized at Nagrijuli of Baksa district today to create awareness about uplift of women among society. A two day seminar cum interaction session on 'Conflict, displacement and children’s vulnerability' was organised by Centre for Peace & Conflict studies, Bodoland University and NERSWN at Central Institute of Technology (CIT) in Kokrajhar which begins from Friday. Police recovered body of Taracharan Das, 55, peon of Assam Gramin Vikash Bank, Kokrajhar branch this evening in Kokrajhar.  According to police, body of Das was found on death condition at Kapili lodge above the bank complex building when after bank official noticed that his lifeless body lying inside a room.  Police recovered the body breaking door of the room in the presence of bank official and magistrate. It was suspected that Das, who hailed from Mirza was had over consumed alcohol late last night and met a misery life, said a senior police officer.
