Independence Day celebrated in Chirang

The 69th Independence Day was celebrated with great fanfare at District Parade Ground of Kajalgaon in Chirang district along with rest of the country. In the programme, the BTC Deputy Chief Kampa Borgayary unfurled the National Flag  and took the salute of the march past comprising of 7 contingents of school students, Assam Police and Home Guards. 

In his speech, Borgoyary extended his hearty greetings to all the residents of Chirang district and appealed to all to pay tributes to the Father of the Nation Mohandas Karamchand  Gandhi, freedom fighter and patriotic leaders who had secured freedom for the nation. He highlighted important achievements   through different departments like PWD, PHE, DRDA, Education Department,  Agriculture Department, Social Welfare Department, H&FW Department, Water Resources Department  etc. and the projects being taken up by BTC administration in  various fronts. As part of the celebration, a dazzling cultural programme was presented by school children and as such, prizes and citations were given to students who topped this year's final examinations from the district. 

At the same time, Media persons Sunil Kumar Sharma and Bhrigumuni Roy were also awarded for their outstanding services in the field of journalism in district. The Best Teachers and Best Guardians along with winners of the best marching contingents and best cultural performance were also given away prizes and citations in the programme. Inspite of incessant rainfall, besides Government officials and dignitaries, a large number of people from in and around Chirang district gathered to witness the celebration.

Security forces apprehend a NDFB(S) cadre from Basabil area under Gossaigaon PS on Sunday in Kokrajhar district. Based on information about the presence of the militant outfit cadres in the area, a joint team of police and army launched an operation where a listed cadre of Gossaigaon platoon of the NDFB(S) was arrested along with arms. The Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) has left three constituencies- Sorbhog, Rangia and Bhawanipur to the Bharatiya Janata party (BJP), its ally party.
