A B Tech student is believed to have committed suicide in the morning leaving the Guwahati IIT in utter shocked on Friday.
Identified as Ujjal Salil, the body of student from Bihar was found at the campus early in the morning. The inmate of the Brahmaputra Hostel was suspected to have jumped to the ground.

Police recovered the body and investigation is going on. This is the third such tragic incident at the country’s premier seat of science and technology in Guwahati during the last 12 months.

Last year in the same month i.e. on 14/09/2014 our son Tushar Yadav was also found dead behind his room in Kameng Hostel, before we reached there from Delhi IIT Guwahati declared it as suicide. Same thing happened in today"s case.  After our strong oppose case of conspiracy and murder was registered since then Police and IIT Guwahatidid nothing at yet, we at our level providing evidences, activities of suspects but all in vain. You the media also continuously describing as suicide why? On that day you the media failed to did your duty to find out facts then wrote such thing. If you did that in so hurry then why not you published the story of conspiracy and murder. This IIT has continue taking life of young engineers no media no ngo no political system no UGC no NHRC no Court take notice of it. We the grieved parents of Tushar can understand the loss that the family of Ujjal Shailabh have to bear through whole life, what else we can say   Narender Singh ( Gurgaon)

Mooshahary to fight from Kokrajhar

After months of will-he-won’t-he, Ranjeet Sekhar Mooshahary finally announced that he would contest the upcoming Lok Sabbha polls.Talking to reporters in Kokrajhar on Tuesday, the former Meghalaya Governor gave hint of contesting the polls as an independent candidate.His announcement bears significance a few days after he visited the Aam Admi Party office in Guwahati where he was apprised of the party’s position and procedures.

Cong strategy for RS polls

Rajya Sabha polls are slated for February 7. The ruling party is believed to have chalked out a slew of strategies to win the three Rajya Sabha seats.Party leaders are in touch with AIUDF and independent legislators to ensure win in all the three seats.The party still falls short of 8 votes to occupy the three seats which are set to be vacant following the expiry of the terms for Bhubneswar kalita from Congress, Biswajeet Daimary from BPF along with Birendra Prasad Baishya from AGP.

The All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) will fight it alone in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.This was what party president Badaruddin Ajmal told reporters in Guwahati after he held a close door meeting on Tuesday. The party is set to field candidates in 8 seats this time.Party sources told assamtimes that they are in touch with BJP and AGP to help their candidate win the Rajya Sabbha polls slated for February 7.

Goswami’s death shrouded in mystery

Dr Bhagawan Goswami’s death seems to have shrouded in mystery a day after the lifeless professor of the Cotton College was recovered on the Brahmaputra in Panbazar on Monday.After the post mortem, his family members have called it a cold blooded murder citing a number of clues. His family members claimed to have seen an injury mark on the forehead of the body along with some mysterious position which suggested it a case of murder..His wife demanded a high level probe to ascertain the truth behind the mysterious death of Dr Goswami. The body was cremated on Tuesday morning after clearing all medical formalities.  

3 accidents: 8 dead

Amid Bhugali bihu festivity at least eight persons were killed and 10 others have been injured in three different road mishaps on Tuesday wee hours.In a shocking mishap, four policemen were killed when the Scorpio vehicle carrying them collided head with a truck in Laluk in the wee hours. RS polls on February 7

The Election Commission is set to hold polls for three Rajya Sabha seats from Assam on February 7.According to information available with assamtimes, the country’s poll panel is expected to issue poll notification on January 21 for the three seats. The results are expected on the voting day.Notably, the term for three sitting Rajya Sabha members will end in March this year. They are Bhubneswar Kalita from Congress, Birendra Prasad Baishya from Asom Gana Parishad and Biswajeet Daimary from Bodoland Peoples’ Front.

Assembly session on Feb 10

Governor Janaki Ballav Patnaik has convened a day long session of the Assam Legislative Assembly on February 10. In his notification issued on Monday, the Governor has summoned the Assembly at 9 am on February 10. The session will pass a vote on account in lieu of a full fledged budget for 2014-2015 in view of the upcoming Lok Sabha poll.
