E-library in Jan: Smriti

HRD ministry is preparing an e-library where the teachers, students and researchers would have free access. This was what Smriti Irani said when the Union HRD minister was a visit to Agartala on Friday.

She said that to be launched in January next year named as Shoddha Sindhu, the e-library will comprise 90,000 books would be available even from the mobiles which would be of immense benefit for the students and teachers.

Later she addressed a function at the NIT in Agartala where she advised the authority to organize a conclave of all NITs of the northeast involving students for a day or two, to knock out solutions to common problems facing them and government of India will help such ventures.

Cong loses Dima Hasao council

The ruling Congress is all set to lose the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council. BJP moved the Assam governor PB Acharya staking claims to form the council saying that they have numbers. 

But the governor is all set to hold a special convention of the council to examine the majority of the Congress. If Congress fails to prove majority, the council would be dissolved paving the way for forming the BJP council.

The bizarre development took place on Friday when five Congress executive members along with four others joined BJP. Now BJP’s strength has gone up from 10 to 16 in the 28 member council.

A team of senior BJP leaders on Saturday met Governor PB Acharya at the Raj Bhawan and apprised him of the development and formally staked claim to form the Dima Hasao Autonomous Council. 


KLO cadres surrendered

Five hardcore cadres including assistant organizing secretary of KLO surrendered to police along with arms in Kokrajhar due to sustained pressure and counter insurgency operations(CI) against militant organization today.

The surrendered were identified as Hareswar @ Jayanta,asstt organizing secretary,who had carries of reward 5 lakhs,Tiranga@Anat@2Birkang CO 1st Bn,Panchanan@Bikash,asstt finance secretary,Brajen Barman @Rajani and Pradip Barman.They deposited one HK 33 Rifflle with magazine and 100 live bullet along with two satellite phones.

The list of 11 KLO leaders against whose names each carries cash of Rs.5 lakh each declared by APHDrs in January 2014.After that central govt banned the KLO organization as per schedule of MHA which includes Lalchand Deka @ Jayanta surrendered,Dhananjay @ Dayal,Anath,Dhananjay Barman,Paban,were surrended to police and  Rambo and Rajbangshi Brindaban killed in encounter and remaining three like Kaka,Kailash Koch and Jiban Koch are yet to tarce out,said Surjeetsing Faneswar,ASP KOkrajhar.

Pakhi Miyan arrested, CBI interrogation on

Police have arrested infamous drugs peddler Pakhi Miyan on Friday in West Benga charging with his involvement in a number of cases. According to information, a team of Central Bureau of investigation is interrogating him in connection with a number of cases. The interrogation is in progress and some startling revelations are coming up during the interrogation before handing over to Assam police. Miyan, who was allegedly involved in the murder of Income Tax officer Tarun Dutta has also been allegedly involved in the killing of a Nagaon journalist with Asomiya Pratidin Muslimuddin Ahmed. The arrest was no disclosed due to the CBI interrogation.

The notorious drugs don was arrested along with his nephew Asha Ahmed, Gynandra Das, Korimjoy alias Nurul Haque Siddique and found ganja, 200 grams heroin, 21 mobile handsets and two cards worth Rs 30 crores of rupees. A resident of Borhawa in Morajhar under Hojai subdivision in Nagaon district, Pakhi Miyan was initially indulged in the smuggling of drugs and but he later expanded his network to heroin, cocaine and even arms. He is said to be kingpin of the murder of Tarun Dutta a revenue intelligence officer on September 12, 2006 at Krishnanagar area in the city. Also, he is alleged to be involved in the killing of AGP leader Habib Ali.

Of late, he was mired in yet another controversy in the killing of Asomiya Pratidin correspondent Mushlimuddin Ahmed. The Central bureau of Investigation also was tracking him to implicated in a number of cases. Although he did not disclosed his identity later it was confirmed by confessional statements by his associates.
