The All Assam Goria Maria Desi Jatiya Parishad has demanded Scheduled Tribes (ST ) status to meet socio - economic development and integration in the state. The parishad held its workshop cum open session, was organised by BTAD coordination committee of the parishad in association with Kokrajhar district unit at Baruapara LP School ground on Sunday in Kokrajhar.
Hafijul Ahmed, president of the state committee of the parishad while talking exclusively said that the Goria Maria desi jatiya are the indigenous people of the state,who were converted their religion into Islam. He has demanded the community should be given ST status through ammendment of the Constitution and provide social development and integrated society in the state.
Ahmed told reporters that the peoples should not be discriminated under religion manner, peoples should be treated equal and held united among society. He has claimed the Goria Maria desi jatiya are main indigenous and they have own identify from their forefathers in their living. He has also urged the govt to facilitate proper way while granting ST status along other communities in the state.
MLA Pramila Rani Brahma attended the function as guest, Sahir Bhuyan, adviser of parishad, Mamtaj Choudhury, coordinator of the parishad, Ajijul Haque, BTAD coordinator, Sheik Selim Patgiri, president Kokrajhar district unit of parishad were among others who attended programme.
