The mortal remains of Anjan Dutta were consigned to flames on Friday a day after the APCC president died of cardiac arrest in New Delhi. After last respect to the lifeless former minister in Guwahati and Sivasagar, Dutta’s body was taken to Gaurisagar where he was cremated with full state honour in the afternoon. Former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and forest minister Pramila Rani Brahma, MP Ripun Bora were prominent among those who were present at the cremation ground. Before that thousands of bereaved Congress men received Dutta’s body at the Jorhat Airport in the morning and was taken to Sivasagar to facilitate his fans to pay their last respect in Sivasagar town and his birth place Gayan gaon.
Dutta died of cardiac ailment on Thursday morning at the All India Institute of Medical Science a couple of weeks after he was rushed to it. The party in rank and file have condoled his death and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.
Various parties, organizations have vehemently condemned NDFB-S for attack on the scribe demanding action against the culprits. In yet another attack on media, suspected NDBF(S) militants shot a journalist in their captivity in Udalguri district sending shock and anger across the state.The incident took place on Saturday wee hours when the ultras forcibly took away local correspondent of a vernacular daily Prasanta Kumar to an undisclosed locations to be shot at after inflicting torture in their captivity. They charged Kumar with writing against the outfit. A seriously injured Kumar managed to go to a nearby house for help.The local residents rushed him to hospital before being shifted to the Gauhati Medical College.

Amid utter confusion over the counter insurgency operation in Myanmar, army accused the rebel outfits of spreading rumours to boost their sagging morale.In a statement on Wednesday, army claimed to have decimated NDFB (Songbijit), ULFA (Anti-Talk) and KLO during the recent Myanmar operation. Police arrested Akhil Gogoi and Kamal Medhi on Tuesday when they were staging a fast unto death near the APSC premises against irregularities in the Commission-conducted examination apart from demanding removal of the APSC Chairman from the post and also a CBI inquiry into the alleged irregularities in the 2013 civil service examinations.
